Employment: Full Time Experience: Mid-Level

Zendesk is currently looking for an employment and benefits attorney who is interested in joining its dynamic (and fun) legal team. You will have the opportunity for lots of ownership while delivering practical advice to time-sensitive employment, recruiting, and benefits related legal matters. No two days are the same!

Responsibilities
  • Report to our Senior Corporate Counsel (Employment) and work together as the primary legal resource to Zendesk’s global People Operations organization across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC
  • Provide counseling and support for on all matters recruiting, employment, termination, and compensation/benefits
  • Draft, revise, and update employment-related documentation and agreements
  • Advise on internal investigations and recommend appropriate outcomes
  • Assist in the management of global employment litigation including strategy, discovery, drafting, and coordination with external counsel
  • Assist with Zendesk’s compliance and employee training efforts, global equity plans, diversity and inclusion initiatives, executive compensation matters, sales compensation matters, corporate legal matters, and contingent workforce
  • Work cross-functionally with teams including (but not limited to) legal, finance, stock administration, sales operations, diversity and inclusion, and corporate social responsibility to support Zendesk’s goals and manage its legal obligations
  • Liaise through email and calls with global external legal counsel as needed
  • Leverage internal knowledge of Zendesk’s business and goals to provide practical advice
Requirements
  • JD from a leading program with strong academic credentials, and admission in good standing to practice in the State of California
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience at a law firm and/or in house at a company with a focus in employment and compensation/benefits
  • Experience counseling on matters involving California and federal US employment laws
  • Experience or interest in managing international employment and compensation/benefits issues
  • Experience or interest in managing international employment litigation
  • Familiarity with drafting and reviewing employment documentation, including contracts, policies, and equity and compensation plans
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Desire to develop knowledge of Zendesk’s business in order to provide specific advice that balances legal obligations and business goals
  • Ability to work and build relationships across functions and provide clear explanations to members of other teams
  • Mentality that no task is too big or too small and a willingness to work together towards solutions with integrity, diplomacy, and tact
  • Collaborative, upbeat work ethic where you can take ownership and have fun
  • Understanding of the impact of a highly satisfied, excited team and enjoy working across multiple time zones and cultures
