Zendesk is looking for smart, creative software development interns who enjoy building great software to join us in our San Francisco office.
Why team ORCA?
ORCA's team mission is to protect Zendesk and our customer from fraudulent activities. Fraud prevention is one of the most complex and challenging problems we are facing at Zendesk. Fraudsters constantly change their behavior patterns and exploit new ways of abusing our infrastructure and consequently cause huge damage to Zendesk and its customers. As a Zendesk intern, you will help our team to build out security features, services and tools utilizing cutting-edge technologies like real time data processing with Apache Kafka, Zookeeper and Flink. Data is king; we have huge amounts of data stored in Google BigQuery. You will learn how to use IPython notebooks and Google Data Studio to unlock the value of all this data. You'll work closely with a mentor to ship production code, which by the end of your internship, will be used by real customers every day.
About the role:
Work in a dynamic agile team and use the latest technologies (e.g. Kubernetes, Apache Flink) to deliver excellence and high availability software.
Collaborate with product managers, data analysts, and advocacy teams to understand ongoing abuse issues.
Develop systems and integrations to prevent abuse in real time.
What you will learn:
You will learn to develop in either of these languages (Ruby, Scala, Python) or application stack operating at high scale.
You will be involved in all phases of the software lifecycle, from specification to design, coding, and deployment.
How to write unit and integration tests for complex distributed systems software.
Underpinnings of modern open source software such as Kafka, Zookeeper, Flink, Akka and others.
This internship will focus on building applications, enhancing your skills and giving you on-the job training to further develop your engineering knowledge.
You love problem solving. Investigating problems and figuring out the best solution.
Pursuing a Computer Science or equivalent degree (preferably in your 2nd or 3rd year of college).
A genuine passion for the web and new technologies.
Github projects a plus.
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Experience working in an agile development environment.
Experience with MVC application framework, for instances Ruby on Rails and/or Flask.
You love helping others improve their code, working together with teammates on Github and the PR process.
