About the team

We have been hard at work building a new large-scale, distributed database-as-a-service product, which we are launching soon. We are targeting enterprise-level customers, and therefore need to ensure our product is scalable and reliable.

As part of the team, you will be working on a product that has been identified as a key element to Zendesk’s continued and future success.

About the role

We are looking for a smart, creative, and self-driven intern for Summer 2018.

You will be a full member of the team and will contribute to all the team meetings. You will work closely with your mentor to regularly ship production code that is used by real customers every day. You will be involved in all phases of the software lifecycle, from design, coding, deployment, as well as the reliability and operability of the service.

This internship will focus on building applications, enhancing your skills and giving you on-the job training to further develop your budding engineering career.

This is a full-time, 40 hours/week, 3 month internship running during the summer of 2018. An extended internship or a co-op may be an option too.

What you get to do
  • Learn to design and build distributed, scalable systems
  • Work with a modern stack (Scala, Amazon Aurora, Service Mesh (Envoy), Kubernetes)
  • Be a part of the planning and implementation of the future direction of the service, including potential to work on next generation technologies
  • Learn how to write well-tested, maintainable code, participate in code reviews, and how to work on a software development team
  • Pursuing or recently completed a Computer Science course or equivalent experience
  • A genuine passion for the web and new technologies
  • Must be authorized to work in US

Experience with the following is a plus

  • Scala
  • AWS services like Aurora, DynamoDB, SQS etc.
