Job Purpose (Job Summary):
Company Overview: Established in 2008 and headquartered in Silicon Valley, Invesco-Jemstep has an established track record of introducing new and multi-patented technologies for the wealth management industry. As an early and innovative entrant into digital advice we built a B2C “robo-advisor” before the term was even coined and more recently we were also one of the first digital platforms to focus exclusively on helping advisors deliver professional advice to their clients online. Our Technologies: Chef (implies Ruby) and associated tooling,  AWS – management via console and CLI/API clients. Additional API client development: EC2, Elastic Mapreduce and data pipelines, CloudFormation, CloudFront, Elasticache and Cloudsearch, IAM, Cloudwatch, S3, AWS Security Services, MongoDB, Redis, Data structure languages, including XML and Json, Ubuntu Linux and other distributions (system administration), Continuous Integration systems. Various operational support systems – centralized logging, key management systems, custom ruby applications, monitoring platforms Role Overview: We are seeking a talented Site Reliability Engineer within the Operations squad to help them in their mission of delivering world-class technology solutions to financial institutions and their clients.



Key Responsibilities / Duties:


  • Continuously improve production experience for Jemstep’s clients and their customers by focusing on Site Reliability Engineering
  • ...(through proper design and automation, improving availability, decreasing latency, improving performance, implementation of monitoring and alerting so that the system self-heals production issues
  • well as supporting and improving emergency responses/incident management) in a highly compliant environment
  • Deep understanding of AWS security best practices
  • Deliver the infrastructure following Jemstep’s Infrastructure As Code practices – reproducible and automated (experience with CloudFormation and/or Terraform)
  • Research, evaluate and propose solutions that add value to / improve the business
  • Reduce toil by automating repetitive tasks
  • Design, implement and test disaster recovery plans
  • Contribute towards building a highly effective team. Encourage the sharing of technical knowledge and the free-flow of ideas
  • Liaise with vendors and partners for problem resolution
  • Our Infrastructure includes the following components:
  • Applications, Data stores,  Analytics, ETL / data transformation


Work Experience / Knowledge:

  • 5+ years in a senior SRE role preferred
  • Live and breathe SRE principles
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Ruby, Python or Bash
  • Familiar with technologies used to deploy infrastructure as code such as Terraform or Cloudformation
  • Significant AWS experience and best practices in a highly compliant environment
  • Experience with a provisioning framework, ideally Chef (alternatively Ansible, puppet)
  • Strong Linux Administration skills around networking, filesystems, processes and security
  • Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience within a systems engineering / administration environment as an SRE

Skills / Other Personal Attributes Required:

  • Able to communicate effectively in English
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Honest, positive, approachable, self-aware, self-regulating and self-motivating
  • Demonstrates a strong interest in our craft
  • Willing to work reasonable amounts of overtime when required
  • Familiar with other cloud providers such as Azure or GCP
  • Experience with version control systems, specifically Git.
  • Solid understanding of the full web technology stack
  • Familiarity with containers such as Docker
  • Experience with Java/Scala and builder frameworks (SBT, maven, etc.)
  • Experience managing a NoSQL database
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration Systems
  • Familiarity with agile software development practices

Formal Education: (minimum requirement to perform job duties)

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is required, MBA is a plus
