Copy Editor

Full Time
Main Location
New York City, NY, United States
The Copy Editor champions Healthfirst’s adherence to its brand voice attributes, identity guidelines, and grammar style across all marketing assets—digital, print, out-of-home, tv, radio, and more. An experienced editor, this creative marketing professional will maintain the Copy Team’s intellectual repositories and fulfill a vast array of copy-editing requests, from multi-channel content and customer service scripts, to policy manuals and field toolkits. An ironclad understanding of the mechanics of writing, storytelling, and current best practices is a must. A proven track record of fast and high-volume work, cross-department collaboration, and consummate attention to detail will ensure success in this role. This candidate, a member of the internal creative agency, will join the Copy Team and report to the Director of Brand Voice.

  • Master the Healthfirst brand voice, identity guidelines, and grammar style; consistently maintain them across all marketing channels and assets—digital, print, out-of-home, tv, radio, and more.
  • Administer the Copy Team’s intellectual repositories and their operations—brand identity guidelines, correspondence signature bank, and legal disclaimer bank.
  • Evaluate and deliver on an array of copy-editing requests, including: multi-channel marketing content, digital experiences, UX messaging, emails, advertisements, social media content, signage, letters, scripts, toolkits, surveys, presentations, direct mail and response, company manuals and workbooks, and more.
  • Be a superior editor and flawlessly hone in on the aspects that make copy effective: storytelling, clarity, creativity, style, tone, cadence, authenticity, vocabulary, punctuation, semantics, accuracy, and more.
  • Make copy edits that reflect an in-depth understanding of the following: channel-specific nuances, personalization, localization, best practices, branding, audience segments, conversion optimization, ethical considerations, cultural sensitivity, and the psychology of marketing.
  • Be a strategic partner and resource to internal and external stakeholders, providing brand stewardship, editing support, grammar guidance, and professional feedback and recommendations.
  • Operate autonomously: drive adherence to the brand’s voice, identity guidelines, and grammar style with and/or without the guidance of the Director of Brand Voice, successfully operating independently, jointly, or on the behalf of the director.
  • Ensure there are no gaps in the editing process—kick-off meetings, representation from the Copy Team, collaboration, QA practices, revisions, reviews, and final sign-offs.
  • Assume responsibility of proofreading tasks when the Copy Team’s Proofreader is on vacation or out-of-office.
  • Successfully work on multiple projects and meet deadlines without sacrificing quality or performance.
  • Be an advocate for the creative process and help to ensure projects follow all protocols, from start to finish.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or other relevant field from an accredited institution or relevant experience
  • 4+ years of experience in a copy-editing role that spans all disciplines and formats—digital, print, out-of-home, tv, radio, short- and long-form copy, and more
  • Experience editing, proofreading, and writing
  • A top-notch resume and portfolio that shows mastery of copy editing, grammar, and mistakes
