About the Role:
As a Product Owner, you will be a member of an agile team serving as the voice of the customer. You will work with the Product Manager and other stakeholders—including other product owners and the team—to define and prioritize the team backlog so that the solution effectively addresses user needs while maintaining technical integrity. Besides representing the customer, you will also be responsible for making sure that corporate, divisional and business unit priorities are adhered to while delivering an outstanding user experience. The scope of your work will be global in nature.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in eCommerce, web services and application definition, and who is also not afraid of the technical stuff. The best ideas in the world are nothing if they are not executable, so our ideal candidate has a bias toward execution. You should be a doer and you should have some agile experience as a product owner under your belt. Extra credit if you have done agile in a large enterprise.
Backlog Refinement: With input from the product manager and other stakeholders, the product owner builds, prunes, and maintains a backlog primarily consisting of user stories and defects. Backlog items are prioritized based on user value, time dependencies, risk reduction and effort. The product owner has the primary responsibility to keep the process of writing and prioritizing user stories flowing. The product owner also reviews and re-prioritizes the backlog as part of the preparatory work for longer term release planning, including coordination of any dependencies with other product owners. During the release planning meeting, the product owner is the main source for user story detail and priorities, and has the responsibility to accept the final release plan. The Product Owner also participates as an active member of the extended Product Manager/Product Owner team, where they contribute to the vision and roadmap, and actively participate in program level backlog refinement and release planning preparation.
User Experience: Work with a cross-functional team of UI developers, architects, designers and QA testers to develop and break down requirements/user stories into executable chunks; champion the user experience of the product by working closely with interaction and visual designers; ensure that the site is intuitive and designed with a long lifespan in mind in a mobile-friendly way.
Accepting completed stories: The product owner is the key person responsible for accepting completed stories so they can be released to production. This includes validation that the story meets acceptance criteria and that the appropriate acceptance tests have been completed.
The product owner also has an instrumental role in producing the product demo for key stakeholders.
- BS/BA in computer science, business or related discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years demonstrated product management or product owner work experience in an Agile/Scrum environment. Experience defining, executing and delivering on web software projects a plus.
- Strong writing skills – we do not work with PRDs, so an ability to write clear, concise User Stories is a must.
- Experience working on a release of a large-scale web site.
- Strategic yet action-oriented. High integrity, diligent, smart.
- Agile experience is required
- Mobile services background (Smartphone, Tablet; iOS, Android) preferred
- Internationalization or localization experience preferred
