Job Summary:
Primary responsibility is to trade U.S. equity securities for mutual funds and institutional accounts, ensuring best execution, as well as supporting the trading desk and investment teams with regards to any day-to-day operational tasks. Additional responsibilities include providing team members with market color, relevant order flow, and liquidity opportunities, while aiding the team in maintaining compliance and cultivating relationships with counterparties. This position will provide primary support to the MLP strategies, while also supporting other fundamental equity strategies at the firm.


Key Responsibilities / Duties:


  • Implement investment decisions and engineer trades using a variety of trading strategies, technologies, and market venues in order to minimize market impact and ensure best execution.
  • Maintain a close liaison with fund managers, serving in a consultative capacity to ensure there is a constant flow of market and regulatory developments, while providing ideas for efficient implementation and the enhancement of the execution process.
  • Communicating market color, as well as execution updates verbally and in writing to research analysts and portfolio managers.
  • Work collaboratively with various participants in the trading cycle, including Quantitative Trade Analysts, Brokers, Traders and Portfolio Manager’s with the purpose of improving process, assessing trade execution quality, and providing recommendations for entry/exit strategies.
  • Exercise discretion in executing large multi-day trades, while working closely to keep portfolio managers abreast of market conditions, liquidity, price volatility, and other dynamics affecting relevant securities.
  • Partner with the systematic trading team to enhance capabilities, with the goal of lowering transaction costs, improving execution results, and ultimately driving performance.
  • Provide portfolio liquidity and capacity analysis in collaboration with Portfolio Managers, Risk Analysts, as well as Relationship Managers and end-clients.
  • Collaborate with other traders, as well as the Trade Research, Operations, Legal, Compliance, and Investment Technology teams on ad-hoc projects.
  • Execute portfolio trades consisting of global baskets that require attention to balancing different exposures, matching trade/settlement dates, and implementing trading decisions to satisfy large fund flows.
  • Communicate order instructions and execution expectations to internal European and Asian based traders regarding trade flow passed overseas.
  • Maintain a constant awareness of developments within markets, regulations, trading technology, and other issues relevant to the effective transaction of business.
  • Regularly review transaction cost analysis.
  • Monitor markets for conditions that may impact trading and notify portfolio managers, research analysts and the Head Trader of significant events or information.

Work Experience / Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of global equity markets, as well as a minimum of 1 year of U.S. equity trading-related experience, is required.
  • Experience in the Midstream Energy and MLP sectors is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Bloomberg, as well as a strong mathematical/statistical background is preferred.
  • Computer science skills preferred for data analysis.

Formal Education: (minimum requirement to perform job duties)

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or a related field is preferred

License/Registration/Certification: (minimum requirement to perform job duties)

  • FINRA Series 7 & 57 Licenses are preferred
