The System Engineer IV, is part of the Operational Support System (OSS) organization responsible for enterprise solution engineering, development, configuration and the operations of the Network Inventory suite of applications including Network Manager from IBM/Tivoli, Granite Adaptive Inventory from Ericsson, and several Charter Communications-developed systems including SNIP, KeyMaster, GateKeeper, and IFL, most of which use Oracle relational databases and related tools. As an OSS System Engineer IV, you are responsible for developing, testing (acceptance test), implementing and supporting systems integration solutions based on existing OSS standard solution and architecture. Additional responsibility also includes but not limited to supporting, maintaining the stability of the environment and assuring the availability of the platforms for our internal and external customers. Responsible for identifying process improvements to increase the performance and capacity in the environment for improved efficiency and quality. This position works in an office environment. Remote work is not a currently-accepted part of the job.

  • Command of all documented skills of SE-III and below.
  • Create, maintain, and communicate detailed documentation to spread understanding; this include both textual documentation and graphical documentation.
  • Evangelize inventory standards, and industry best practices.
  • Setup, manage, monitor, and troubleshoot several Oracle instances used by the group.
  • Document architectures, solutions, and processes so that others less knowledgeable might be able to provide support in an emergency.
  • Automate incident detection, notification, remediation, and reporting as related to those databases.
  • Identify process, workflow, performance, and query tuning and optimization opportunities, and execute on those that are agreed.
  • Use your knowledge of database architecture, design, and implementation to architect or optimize computing solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent training, education and / or experience.
  • Minimum of Six (6) years of experience using Oracle database applications.
  • Minimum Three (3) years of experience with Golden Gate, DataGuard and Kafka.
  • Minimum of Three (3) years of experience building Oracle RACs from scratch
  • Minimum Two (2) years of Experience optimizing Oracle systems
  • Experience patching, configuring, monitoring, and exporting data in Oracle systems
  • Experience managing inventory databases.
  • Working knowledge of L2/3 networking and SNMP (v2 and v3) solutions.
  • Experience working with RedHat and other Linux operating systems and shells.
  • Scripting skill in any commonly deployed language (Python, Perl, JAVA, BASH or other Linux shell, etc.) and a basic grasp of contemporary software development best practices.
  • Established ability to plan, structure, and execute on extended efforts across multiple teams, including effectively communicating and delegating tasks to junior team members.
  • Established knowledge of server computer, network attached storage, virtualization, and containerization in data center and cloud implementations.
