Job Description:

Raytheon IIS is seeking an experienced System Safety Engineer that supports all aspects of Neutral Buoyancy Lab (NBL) operations as a member of a multi-disciplined engineering team. The candidate will assure safety considerations are inherent in the system design and monitor safety in system operations.The selected individual will have oversight for all Hazard Analyses (HAs) and review each Test Readiness Review (TRR) to assure all safety aspects have been addressed and that control measures are in place and adhered to.

The position requires a strong emphasis on reviewing and updating contract System Safety Plans, while working with the primary customer (NASA) to produce accurate and inclusive HAs and address Failure Mode and Effect Analyses on a wide range of designs. The successful candidate will possess knowledge of Systems Engineering processes and procedures, in-depth Safety knowledge and experience, and have the ability to work closely with Facility Safety and the Project and Engineering Offices.

The successful candidate will be detail oriented, organized, self-starting, multi-tasker, and work effectively with other IPT members. They must be proficient in technical writing; possess strong communication skills, and be well-organized to track hazards throughout the system life cycle.

Required Skills:
  • Minimum 4 years of Safety Engineering experience
  • Experience developing clear and concise HAs
  • Strong technical background in Systems Safety
  • Proficient with the use of analytical tools to simulate Systems Safety methods prior to system deployment
  • Ability to perform assigned worked with minimal supervision and interface across all management levels
  • Basic MS Office skills
  • Ability to work in a process oriented organization
Desired Skills:
  • Strong problem solving skills with ability to proactively identify alternate solutions to difficult technical challenges
  • Ability to prepare Safety related documentation with minimal revision and review
  • GSP (Graduate Safety Practitioner) certification
  • SGE (Special Government Employee) certification
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification
  • Advanced degree in Environmental Science or Safety Engineering
Required Education:

Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and 4 years of related work experience or 12 years of related work experience in lieu of a STEM degree
