An opening has arisen for a VP, Connected InSeat Systems Engineering Leader within our Irvine offices. The VP, Connected In-Seat Systems Engineering is responsible for leading, directing and delivering on all engineering activities and work packages for the Connected InSeat Systems Engineering Competency Center within the Thales InFlyt Experience business line. This position leads a technically diverse group of engineering modalities including Software Engineering; Solution Engineering Management and Validation for all new and legacy InSeat Systems. This role is also includes leading engineering resources from both USA and France as well as outsourced ODC partners.

This specific position will also include “Head of SW Discipline” responsibilities across the entire Inflyt Business line which will includes a community of approximately ~300 SW engineers and directing local site SW HoD’s where needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for managing the engineering activities of the Thales Connected InSeat Systems Business Segment. Designs, develops, modifies, and sustains the products of the business unit. Accountable for operating results.
  • Responsible for the development of people, tools, and processes to achieve a quality engineering product and an engineering organization that meets cost and schedule constraints while maintaining a positive and healthy work environment.
  • Responsible for developing a performance excellence culture.
  • Responsibility for multiple engineering functions [SW Engineering (Domestic and International), System Test Engineering, Project Engineering, Technical Publications) and directs through director level and senior managers.
  • Manages and delegates multiple/simultaneous complex issues critical to the success of the business unit.
  • Responsible or provides engineering support for all facets of the product life cycle from sales proposals to sustaining with concentration on schedule, cost and quality of the product.
  • Relentlessly improve the competitiveness of the organization
  • through appropriate processes, tools and training.
Required Education, Competencies and Experience:
  • Master's (MA) degree or equivalent in a technical discipline
  • 15 years proven experience leading technical teams in the research & development of high technology products and systems.
Desired Qualifications:
  • A track record of delivery of complex, large, multi-year projects on time, cost, and quality
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Proven understanding of business strategy formulation and implementation with a minimum of 10 years practical experience
  • Successful experience in large engineering companies
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills are required
  • Proven ability to form relationships and exert influence at all company, partner and customer organization levels is required
  • Creative, innovative and exhibiting a strong entrepreneurial flair
  • A strategic thinker who confidently solves highly complex problems with informed, timely and decisive decision making whilst maintaining integrity and transparency.
  • Experience with Aircraft Connectivity or proven experience developing and implementing large communications systems and satellite communications
  • Proven experience in software development and management/leadership.
  • Agile experience
