We’re looking for an Application Engineer to ensure the operational excellence of some of Expedia’s most critical services. The right individual will embrace the opportunity to tackle challenging problems and should have a strong desire to learn and grow. They will work on the cutting edge of technology, leveraging Kong, ECS, Lambda, Elasticsearch, Docker, Jenkins, Chef, Splunk, AppDynamics, and more.

What you’ll do

  • Provide operational support for applications, systems, networks, and security infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve stability and performance issues to ensure pre-production and production systems are healthy and functional.
  • Develop foundational tools and infrastructure solutions that enable us to build and operate services safely and securely.
  • Define and document, standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Provide consultation on service, network, and operational designs to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability.

Who you are

To thrive in this role, you should have…

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in a 24x7 highly available production environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • A collaborative spirit with the ability to work across disciplines.
  • Experience with Linux administration.
  • Demonstrated experience with scripting languages, such as Python, Bash, Perl, JavaScript, etc.
  • A fundamental understanding of networking and load-balancing principles.
  • An understanding of computer science and software development principles.
  • Experience with deployment tools, such as Jenkins, Chef, Ansible, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other relevant Cloud Infrastructure solutions like Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud.
