We're looking for an expert in Linux to help ensure terrific results when pairing PowerEdge servers with Linux/open-source products.  We work regularly with the major commercial Linux server OS vendors and engage with the community frequently on a broad variety of projects. The role is part of a global engineering team with most of the team based in Round Rock, TX.

  • Participate in Dell EMC's enterprise Linux engineering and open-source development efforts, specifically by:
    • Investigating new enterprise server-based technologies and participating in proof of concept activities
    • Helping develop software solutions for specific enterprise products
    • Participating in open-source projects
    • Work to create and maintain Linux-based software appliances
    • Triage and find root cause for Linux kernel bugs with Dell's server, storage, and networking systems
  • Represent Dell's technical interests within various open-source communities and Linux vendors through technical discussions, code review, and code submission
  • Work with Dell EMC internal teams, external hardware & OS vendors and open-source communities to enable next-generation enterprise technology support in various Linux distributions




  • 4+ years of work experience plus B.S. in computer engineering or computer science, or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience with Linux usage and administration.
  • Experience coding in C, C++, Python, JavaScript (preferably on Linux).
  • Experience with participating in upstream open source devel mailing lists and collaborative dev environments like github/gitlab.
  • Self-starter; able to work effectively as a global team member; comfortable with occasional ambiguity
  • Solid communication skills, verbal and written
  • Knowledge of open-source software licenses such as GPL, BSD, Mozilla Public License, Apache License, etc.


  • M.S. in computer engineering or computer science, or equivalent
  • Solid understanding of OS fundamentals (Schedulers, Memory/IO device Management, filesystems etc.)
  • Experience with developing and debugging kernel/device drivers and application/libraries
  • Experience with CI/CD and automation tools such as Ansible/Salt
  • Notable/significant upstream open-source contribution activity
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with enterprise server, storage, networking  technologies
  • Understanding concepts of Software Defined Datacenters and Private/Hybrid Cloud
