We are the Office Lens team, a startup team within Office focused on redefining productivity on mobile. Office Lens enjoys millions of engaged users and also powers image based productivity flows across Microsoft Apps. We leverage and build cutting edge technology in image processing and understanding to power delightful productivity experiences, while balancing mobile constraints. This involves building systems that scale intelligence across mobile and services.


We are looking for a Principal Engineering Manager to lead this initiative. The ideal candidate will have a blend of technical chops in image processing, AI/ML techniques, manage, nurture, and lead a high caliber engineering team. Candidate should be adept at applying a wide array of ML techniques with a focus on problem solving and building an end to end system. Candidate should have proven background in collaborating with several partners and create mutually impactful successes. Candidate should be highly customer obsessed and have a strong drive for high quality. Our team values Grit and Fun as our strategic way of being. An ideal candidate would espouse this.


Lead a team of passionate high caliber engineers developing and coaching them to higher performance and engagement

Design and lead implementation of end of end intelligence service pipeline and machine learning models across service/mobile endpoints

Work independently and collaboratively with other research and product teams across Microsoft (across global development centers)

Mentor and develop people



  • 14+ years of experience in technical roles, solid ship experience across product life cycle
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing a team
  • Ability to nurture and grow talent
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Fluent in C#, Python, and Javascript. Familiarity with C++, Java and Objective C is a plus
  • Fluent in service engineering. Familiarity with CNTK or TensorFlow is a plus
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent
