The world is undergoing a transformation with the universe of connected devices the Internet of Things (IOT).  It is estimated that 95% of the data being created today is outside of the public cloud (such as Azure) and that is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years.  The data being created is not just static, it is transformational and creates opportunities for enterprises to automate and create solutions using that data to make real-time decisions leveraging AI/ML.

This is one of the hottest battlegrounds and Percept is the platform that Microsoft is building to address this incredibly large opportunity.  Percept is how we will help enterprises around the world to build new devices and applications simply, quickly and with scale in mind.  This Platform as a Service (PaaS) solution is being built to provide customers a consistent, born-in-the-cloud approach to build their applications and for device builders to leverage our rich software stack, reducing time-to-market for new devices and the ability for the ecosystem to build, deliver and manage these devices at-scale.

The Percept engineering team is looking for a Principal Software Development Engineer with a keen interest in building and enabling solutions leveraging AI, ML and the universe of Azure services.  This role is an architectural role with the primary responsibility to take, as input, the defined requirements from Product Management, a high-level architecture from our PM architectural team and then, working closely with the engineering leads and SME’s both within the Percept team and our internal partner teams, translate these inputs into a lasting, scalable, secure and high-quality implementation.  In short, this role will drive the technical architecture and implementation of Percept from the device OS and agents through the cloud services that drive Percept.

An ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Strong development experience in all phases of the product lifecycle
  • Excellent collaboration skills within and across teams
  • Ability to work in a start-up environment with change as a constant
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and Linux
  • Experience with embedded system and cloud service development.
  • Experience with AI pipelines and deployment of AI models (not the building of the model itself, but deployment of the models at scale)

The successful candidate will have:

  • 7+ years of relevant software design, development, and delivery experience in C/C++, C#, Java or related languages
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with distributed systems development, experience with containers with AI/ML experience a plus
  • BS or higher in CS, CSE or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of degree
