About the Position

Flywheel is seeking a Technical Project Manager to join our team. Ideal applicants are creative, team-oriented, energetic individuals with experience managing projects in both agile and waterfall environments. The success of this role will be measured by the quality of work, customer satisfaction, and proper management of project schedule, scope, budget, and issues. 


The Engineering teams operate within a lightweight Agile process and are empowered to alter it as needed to achieve team and company objectives. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Product, Engineering, Quality Assurance and Scientific & Customer Solutions teams to create a world-class data sharing and distributed computing platform. We’re highly responsive to customer needs and constantly strive to make a positive contribution to the biomedical and life sciences communities we serve.

  • Manage high visibility projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Lead daily standup meetings and assist team leads to reprioritize or escalate issues as they arise. 
  • Perform evaluation and review of processes and methodologies and champion continuous improvement recommendations of existing processes.
  • Define project tasks and resource requirements.
  • Track and manage project change requests and interventions to achieve project outputs.
  • Plan, manage, and coordinate multiple assigned functional projects simultaneously, ensuring that stated goals and objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frames. Recognize when to adapt and shift tactics as applicable to the needs and context of the project.
  • Track and create risk mitigation plans and track project deliverables using appropriate tools.
  • Provide direction and support to development teams.
  • Maintain a consistent, clearly communicated project management methodology.
  • Provide feedback to managers on team members’ success, performance, and growth areas.
  • Outline critical path items so the project team can manage them properly. 
  • Identify risks early and work with the team to prevent or mitigate them.
  • Track and manage issues, as well as, function as a first level of escalation.
  • Coordinate, plan and facilitate meetings with project teams and coordinate the interaction with other departments. 
  • Foster an environment that results in team cohesiveness and motivation.
What Would Make You a Great Fit
  • Extensive experience in software development project management principles, practices and methodologies. Bonus points if you are a Jira wizard! 
  • Strong interpersonal skills including collaborating directly with customers.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to get along with all types of personalities. Requires excellent rapport with all external and internal team members to promote enthusiasm around the customer objectives.
  • Exceptional planning skills and the ability to rally team members to build a schedule and follow it.
  • Passion for the successful delivery of customer solutions, not just contract requirements.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-tech start-up environment.
  • Comfortable working in an environment using a hybrid of agile, waterfall and general project management best practices. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience interacting with both business and technical individuals at all levels.
  • Extensive experience planning, leading and documenting meetings, planning sessions and retrospectives.
  • Ability to work both individually and well with a team. 
  • Ability to express complex technical concepts to multiple stakeholders with varying degrees of technical experience
