Author, NYT bestseller RISE and forthcoming THE GOLDEN SCREEN
JEFF YANG is coauthor of the New York Times bestselling RISE: A Pop History of Asian America, from the Nineties to Now. An author, screenwriter and cultural critic who regularly contributes to CNN, NPR, the New York Times and the Washington Post, he's written three other bestselling books —Eastern Standard Time; Jackie Chan's memoir I Am Jackie Chan: My Life in Action; and the cinematic history Once Upon a Time in China. His next book, The Golden Screen: The Movies That Made Asian America, will be a lead title for Hachette in Fall 2023. Yang has also been a creative and development consultant for Pearl Studios, Fox Studios, Baobab Animation, DreamWorks, Electronic Arts, Hasbro and Disney, most recently for its Marvel and Pixar divisions. Through his production company HUJE, he's currently working with LegionM and Powerhouse Animation on projects in development with Disney, Audible and InsightTV. He cowrote and produced the feature film A Great Divide, starring Ken Jeong (Community, The Hangover) which will be the opening film of the 2023 Bentonville Film Festival, and developed and executive produced the forthcoming indie feature Rosemead, which goes into production in Summer 2023, starring Lucy Liu and Lana Condor. He lives with his family in Los Angeles.
