Area Product Owner, Automation - Dublin (Hybrid)

About the role:

The Optum Ireland Automation Centre of Excellence supports the Payment Integrity organization through the delivery of automation solutions, using existing, new, and emerging technologies to enhance savings, improve productivity and quality and reduce cost.

The appropriate candidate will act as an Area Product Owner on the product team and will be responsible for maximizing the value our automation solutions deliver for our customers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Owns the Product Backlog aligned with an Automation Scrum Team(s)
  • Prioritize work for the Scrum Team(s) in conjunction and agreement with the Product Owner and business partnership.
  • Evaluate the product’s progress at each iteration.
  • Proactively work on the Product Backlog which contains new features, process enhancements, change requests, defects, technical debt and maintenance work.
  • Work with the Scrum Team(s) to create and refine features/stories in the Product Backlog, helping them to connect with business stakeholders for further clarification.
  • Provide direction to the Scrum Team(s) and make prioritization calls.
  • Acts as a liaison with the business and proactively anticipate business needs.
  • Manages Risks and Issues with the Product Owner and Scrum Team(s)
  • Engage with Leadership in the different value streams within the organization to understand the business needs and challenges, educate on the automation teams’ capabilities and technologies available
  • Collaborate with other teams to provide a cross functional approach to the business transformation agenda’s at both a value stream and Payment Integrity level

Required Qualifications:

  • Product Owner qualification and/or practical working experience in an Area Product Owner or Product Owner capacity
  • Prior experience with end to end delivery of high value automation solutions
  • Experience working within a DevOps / Agile Framework (Scrum, LeSS, SAFe, etc.)
  • Experience of implementing software or business transformation projects from ideation / requirements through to successful delivery
  • Demonstrable track record of effective client and stakeholder communication and management


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the US Health Insurance Industry: Claim Adjudication, Payments and Eligibility
  • Prior experience with RPA end to end delivery with a market leading RPA platforms: Automation Anywhere, BluePrism and/or UIPath
  • Lean process improvement or six sigma qualifications / experience
  • Business Analysis experience
  • Experienced in the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including Agile methodologies
