Minimum qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in technical writing.
  • Experience producing technical documentation for a developer audience.
  • Experience managing and leading technical writing teams.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 1 years of experience in Android application development.
  • Experience in one or more programming language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Java, C++, etc.).
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to build relationships and advocate the craft with internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Technical writers communicate complex information clearly, concisely and accurately, and without relying on jargon. As a technical writer, your role involves tasks such as writing conceptual overviews and procedures, reading and writing example code, or updating help center queries and FAQs. Technical writers play a big part at Google. They are a key link between engineers, marketing associates, developer advocates, as well as all the external users and developers, tying together many vital but disparate parts of the Google ecosystem.

Using your extensive technical and leadership experience, you manage a team of writers, setting direction, giving feedback, collaborating internally and lending specific content expertise.

In this role, you'll manage the day-to-day work of a team of technical writers. You'll guide them in executing on organization-level strategies to elevate and maintain the quality of developer documentations for Google Assistant on Android. You'll also mentor them in their career development.

Additional Information
(Colorado only*) Minimum salary range between $132,000 - $142,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. *Note: Disclosure as required by sb19-085 (8-5-20) of the minimum salary compensation for this role when being hired into our offices in Colorado.

  • Lead a team of technical writers, setting the goals, priorities, and roadmaps.
  • Identify and resolve issues relating to documentation project schedules, resource availability, documentation structure, documentation design, and deliverables.
  • Execute on strategies for improving document quality and developer experience with Docs.
  • Partner with Product Management and Engineering teams to plan Docs strategies and deliverables.
  • Mentor writers in their work and assist them in developing their careers.
