Intermediate Project Engineer

Job Summary:

The Intermediate Project Engineer will support the program team by developing networking engineering and computer architecture designs, developing highly technical requirements, and determining operational applicability of technical solutions for the delivery of software applications under a rapid/agile acquisitions. This role will be required to serve as one of the central points of contact for both internal development teams and external users and customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Elicit highly technical requirements from stakeholders
    Develop and maintain highly technical requirements for the software development team
  • Evaluate and determine technical approach in support of programmatic decisions
  • Troubleshoot technical problems
  • Install equipment, machines, wiring, or software to meet project needs
  • Develop wiring diagrams and network configuration designs for computer networks
  • Interpret and utilize interface control documents, engineering drawings, user manuals, and other technical data
  • Conduct trade study evaluations of military hardware and software for integration with ISR systems
  • Interface with suppliers to determine technical capabilities, delivery schedules, and costs
  • Maintain configuration control of interconnected computer systems including software, hardware, and firmware
  • Assist with inventories of computer systems and associated equipment
  • Formulate reports, documents and create briefing slides for project and executive level meetings
  • Conduct face-to-face, telephone, or email communications with individuals or teams
  • Primary technical interface for the customer, user, and other associated project team members
  • Support new business opportunities related to the project or product
    Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned




Qualifications

Skills, Experience and Education:

  • 5+ years of experience eliciting, developing, and maintaining highly technical requirements
  • 5+ years of experience of analysis of computer hardware and/or support software
  • 5+ years of experience with full product life cycle development including design, development, testing, deployment, and support
  • Skilled in Systems Engineering with experience leading and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Effective communication of technical information through written and verbal communication
  • Knowledge of software installation and operation within Windows and Linux operating environments
  • Knowledge of computer configurations, operations, and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming
  • Experience and knowledge with Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR) mission systems and platforms, military and commercial voice and data communication systems, military sensor systems and associated applications, and military ISR mapping operations and techniques strongly preferred.
  • Experience with software application development
  • Experience with product development in the defense industry
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably Systems, Electrical, Networking, Software, IT, or Computer), Physics, Mathematics, Master’s degree preferred
  • Completion of CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ or equivalent
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance

Project Specific Skills

  • 4+ years of Systems Engineering experience: progressively complex experience in the design, integration, and analysis of military electronics, computer networking, super-minicomputers, microcomputers, and digital and graphic display systems.
  • Knowledge of aircraft mission system configuration management and information assurance
  • OCONUS travel

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Ability to travel up to 60%, with the possibility of OCONUS travel for program support
  • Duties may require being on call periodically and working outside of normal working hours (evenings, weekends, and holidays)
  • Work performed in an office environment; customer facility; System Integration Laboratory (SIL); in ground vehicles or in secure facilities with/without environmental control; or on-site in aircraft parked in hangers and outside
  • Ability to independently lift 25 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and crawl in small tight spaces
