Corporate Functions Engineering (CFE) Finance is a highly motivated team focused on helping both our business stakeholders and our own team members achieve their full potential.  To enable Microsoft to transform into a real-time enterprise, we Connect the Company, Delight Customers, and Inspire the Industry.  

 

As a Product Owner for the Tax Engineering team, you will identify, document, prioritize, and communicate the work that our engineering teams need to deliver based on quantifiable value to Microsoft.  Core job responsibilities include:  1) Driving strategic insight to industry best practices, trending and benchmarking, and market research; 2) Creation, communication, facilitation, and overall ownership of scenarios, features, and user stories in Visual Studio; 3) Collaborating with business partners and engineering teams to drive positive and impactful business outcomes that align to quantifiable business metrics.

 

Strong candidates should have 8+ years direct involvement with information technology, excellent communication skills, strong organizational skills, experience operating in an agile methodology, and in-depth skills in requirements identification and clarification.  An understanding of transaction processing systems, reporting, ERP applications (SAP), analytics, and web development is desired. This position is located in our Redmond, WA offices.

Responsibilities

 

  • Act as a Chief Product Owner to define end-to-end technology capabilities and business outcomes needed to deliver world class Tax processes such as Indirect Tax, Transfer Pricing, Tax Planning, Tax Audit and Controversy, Tax Provision, Tax Reporting.
  • Partner with Product Owners from different Engineering teams to create high quality features and user stories to deliver on those business outcomes.
  • Provide thought leadership on how scenarios and features will be implemented across multiple systems and organizations.
  • Ability to manage multiple releases concurrently.
  • Strong Stakeholder management by developing and sustaining strong working relationships with business stakeholders such as Corporate Accounting & Finance Operations, application program managers, software engineers, services engineers, vendors and Engineering peers.

Qualifications

Knowledge, experience and skills:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as product owner with strong understanding of the Agile framework

Preferred, not required:

  • Exceptional ability to collaborate, openly communicate, present and negotiate effectively across disciplines, vendors, partners and customers
  • Demonstrated experience delivering results in an ambiguous and changing environment, the ability to work independently and be a self-starter
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills, ability to juggle multiple competing priorities, delegate within team, and ability to work under deadline pressures
  • Experience working in a global delivery model
  • CPA preferred
  • Proven ability to resource, drive and deliver software projects including ERP (SAP), 3rd party, and/or custom developed applications utilizing either an onsite or in an offshore delivery model
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Finance and / or Accounting
