Role Summary
As the Molding and Tooling Engineer you will be responsible for delivery and validation of lead molding processing development and fabrication tooling designs for new product developments and secondary operations. You will work with Mechanical Engineers, Supply Chain Management and Supply Quality Engineers to identify supply base vendors, fabrication technologies and create tooling designs to deliver high volume, high value consumer products with demanding cosmetic requirements. Using your extensive experience, you will investigate and implement industry best practices in scientific molding process, tool design, construction and validation across a range of material and process requirements including plastic molding, metal part fabrication and decorative processes. You will directly manage the molding process, tool design, development and qualification of molding and tooling designs required to deliver new product designs and support manufacturing capacity. You will be managed of the molding suppliers on process continue improvement, and lead training for Sonos's products. This role also focuses on supporting secondary applications for assembly, decoration, etc.
Requirements
- Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of mechanical design with expertise in molding, tooling and secondary operations
- Demonstrated knowledge of molding and materials process validation with Scientific molding experience
- Analytic problem-solving skills, including knowledge of Six Sigma, DOE or similar disciplines
- 10+ years molding processing or manufacturing experience.
- Deep understanding and experience with Tool manufacture processing and implementation.
- Experience with precision molding and resolving out of spec issues.
- Experience in plastic molding, metal casting, metal extrusion and metal stamping.
- Knowledge of secondary processes such as machining and decorating (anodizing, plating, painting).
- Strong material knowledge of plastics and metals.
- Experience in tooling design utilizing plastics filling software.
- Strong hands-on experience with Sub-Assembly processes such as: glue dispensing, welding, PSA application.
- Support positive cross-functional team interactions to accomplish program objectives
- Experience in managing schedules and milestones
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Plastics, Tooling or Manufacturing Engineering (minimum)
- Fluency in Mandarin and English. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
The Ideal Candidate
- Deep understanding and experience with high volume mechanical product manufacturing methodology and implementation.
- Experience in developing Sub-Assembly processes with suppliers. Strong hands-on experience developing automated and manual assembly fixtures.
- Strong hands-on experience with Sub-Assembly processes such as: glue dispensing, welding, PSA application.
- Proficient in the use of DFM, GD&T, SPC, DOE and other Six Sigma techniques.
- CNC experience is a strong plus.
- Experience developing other 2nd processes such as stamping, buffing, anodization, painting and other surface treatment.
- Additional experience with product design, CAD systems, and quality management is a plus.
- Deep understanding and experience with injection molding processing and implementation.
- Experience with precision molding, tooling and resolving out of spec issues.
- Experience in plastic molding, metal casting, metal extrusion and metal stamping.
- Deep knowledge with plastic and metal materials is a plus.
