The Messenger is a new digital media company, whose mission it is to deliver accurate, balanced, non-partisan reporting across every subject, from news, politics and business to sports and entertainment.

We are seeking a driven and experienced Events Audience Development Manager based in Washington, DC for our events portfolio. The Events Audience Development Manager will be a key member of The Messenger's events team working across the organization with editorial, sales, and marketing teams to execute a variety of public-facing and invitation-only events.

This position is based in Washington, D.C. and will follow a hybrid schedule

Responsibilities:

  • Build audience development and audience marketing campaigns that raise awareness about The Messenger's events portfolio.

  • Develop and execute a strategy for both in person and virtual events by identifying target attendees, writing compelling copy for event invites and curating attendee outreach

  • Work with newsroom leaders, advertising clients, and speakers to amplify and support event-related audience engagement

  • Develop comprehensive audience outreach lists and maintain and update audience databases by topic area

  • Create a measurement plan for event attendance based on list development, processes, tech tools and other creative approaches to enhance the reach and knowledge of The Messenger's events.

  • Analyze and recommend technological and strategy improvements on an ongoing basis to improve impact and efficiency

  • Identify and engage with relevant external partners and organizations to help cultivate new audiences

  • Conduct post-event surveys and collect feedback for analysis

  • Support events team on-site and online

 

Key Skills and Attributes:

  • 3-4 years experience in event management, public relations, communications, client management, and/or marketing

  • Experience with audience curation and development of audience outreach lists for a media brand

  • Experience marketing live events, festivals, or conferences

  • Track record of successful audience engagement and growth

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of national and local current events, newsmakers, and policy issues

  • Experience with event marketing/management systems preferred, such as Splash, Swoogo, or Cvent

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications

  • Ability to identify and utilize new tech tools and services

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field
