What will you be doing at eInfochips?
  • You will lead the design and development of a range of DC-DC (1000VDC) and AC-DC converters in kW ranges for Aerospace, Automotive and Defence applications.
  • Lead multiple projects from kick-off through to manufacturing introduction.
  • You will work with customers to distil and agree on specifications.
  • Champion the engineering to production handover with concise documentation
  • Lead the product testing phases to regulatory standards including EMC, Environmental, Shock, Vibration, Surges and Safety.
  • Working with key stakeholders in cross functional teams based in India (3000+ engineers) and UK such as SW, HW, CAD, Mechanical design and PCB layout.

Main Purpose of the Role:
  • Be key engineer for the design and development of power converter technology in Aerospace, Automotive and Defence applications. As well as supporting designs in EV, Healthcare, Industrial, Renewables and BESS.
  • You will work on proposals, project costings, SOWs and documentation
  • Manage internal and external resources for schematic capture, PCB layout, BOM, component selection, mechanical design, testing and prototypes manufacture.
  • You will design and develop DC-DC, AC-DC and DC-AC power converters using simulations and then generate schematic capture, PCB layout and BOMs.
  • Ensure new power supplies and systems meet top level design brief + requirements.
  • Sometimes a 'hands on approach' is required when supporting the Production Engineers and Test engineering functions
  • The role also requires knowledge of best practice design for manufacture.

Key Tasks/Responsibilities:
  • Design and development of new products - across the complete life cycle.
  • Govern and run design reviews, FMEA, DFMEA, Risk analysis and other reliability tools.
  • Manage CAD and simulation tools such as Altium, schematic capture, PCB layouts and CREO.
  • Support teams in EMEA and India with development of new prototypes.
  • Supporting the approvals process for EMC, Environmental, IEC standards
  • Verification, validation, and documentation of.
  • Approve NPI work instructions, and test plans for prototypes DVT and production test
  • Manage the creation of work instructions for manufacture. Manage into production.
  • Ensuring all designs are in accordance with product requirements, they are fit for purpose and conform to safety regulations, EMI, Approvals etc
  • Design product test plans, conduct testing and implement improvements
  • Ensure compliance to legal and regulatory standards: Environmental / EMC / Surge / EHS, Safety.
  • Guide layout for control of EMI and magnetic interference
  • Ensure documentation and design process is implemented and maintained.
  • Contribute to key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive performance and success.
  • Contribute to, generate, and approve technical specifications.
  • Ensure the proper release of electrical and electronic parts in time and within specifications.
  • Manage In house EMC facility for EMI analysis on products and customers product

What are we looking for?

  • Educated to degree level.
  • Experience working on voltages up to 1000VDC and AC mains.
  • Understand safety standards for power converters.
  • Analysis and simulation of power electronics systems using tools such as: Matlab, PSpice principals.
  • Experience in high-reliability design, including redundancy and fault tolerance
  • Ability to implement fault sensing and protection, thermal management, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with SiC MOSFET key characteristics
  • Proven testing and debug skills - can solve development problems.
  • A good understanding of electronics components, board level electronics and experience in the processes, assembly techniques as well as power supplies and their construction.
  • Experience of environmental and regulatory approvals testing
  • Solid understanding of power electronic circuit topologies- buck, boost, flyback, PFCs etc
    • Design of AC/DC DC/DC PSUs
    • Experience digital PSU design
    • Experience producing schematics Altium / PADs.
    • Able to design PCBs and high current busbar design using best practices
    • Creating PCB layouts and selecting appropriate electronic components ensuring designed for manufacture and EMI standards
    • Can design gate drivers
    • Understand the link between software and firmware

  • Ideally experienced with some of the following:
    • Standards compliance for CA/CE Marking, Safety; UL; CB; EN62368,EN60601-1.
    • Strong knowledge of aerospace standards and regulations (e.g., DO-254, DO-178C, D0-160).
    • Functional safety, ASIL ratings and ISO26262 standard.
    • EN61000-4:-3,-5,-6,-11, MIL-461E/F and more.
    • Mechanical design and layout packages
    • Familiarity with embedded systems, microcontrollers, and FPGA design
    • Software and FW experience preferred C / C++ / LabView / Basic
    • PMBus, I2C, SMBus, CAN, RS232, RS485
    • APQP, six sigma or similar (FMEA, quality planning, PPAP etc).
