Collins Aerospace is seeking a talented & motivated individual to join the Aircraft Architectures & Systems engineering team in defining, designing, and implementing reusable Software (SW) Core Assets. This growing engineer team is part of the newly created Avionics Advanced Systems & Architectures (ASA) organization. 

What YOU will do: 

  • You will benchmark software best practices across Collins and Industry to assess for applicability and/or adaptability in Avionics SW Core Architectures. 

  • You will investigate and provide recommendations for reusable SW Core Assets as part of the Avionics Reference Architectures. 

  • You will design, develop, and deliver high-quality SW deliverables, potentially including microservices, applications, modules, and common libraries. 

  • You will guide Channel and Product Line teams in the integration of SW Core Assets, deliberately and regularly collecting feedback for continuous process improvement.  

  • You will act as a thought partner with the Lead SW Core Architect in creating and maintaining reuse strategies across ASA SW assets. 

What YOU will learn: 

  • You will gain exposure to stakeholders across all the Avionics Channels & Product Lines, including executive leadership. 

  • You will gain specialized and general SW Architecture design and development skills to activate the Avionics Product Line vision to be the leading provider of Open Systems & high-integrity aviation solutions. 

  • You will gain experience in introducing and measuring the successful impact of new SW Core Assets and novel reuse strategies. 

Education & Experience: 

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Skills Required: 

  • Ability to collaborate & bring various stakeholders together. 

  • Self-motivated with a high sense of responsibility. 

  • Comfortable working in a fluid & undefined environment. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience as a Lead Software Engineer, or similar role, as part of an Integrated Product Team (IPT). 

  • Experience in design, development, and documentation of avionics software products and technologies, up to & including DO-178B DAL A. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work seamlessly across organizational boundaries. 

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical subjects concisely at all levels of the organization. 

  • Travel includes both domestic and international: <10%
