Collins Aerospace is looking for a motivated and talented Lead Systems Engineer to lead the development of a Nuclear Command, Control and Communication (NC3) Platform. The Lead Systems Engineer will be responsible for technical execution, and process definition for the Systems Engineering teams executing the program.  As the Lead Systems Engineer, you will lead engineering teams in the development of system models, designs, and validation efforts on an (NC3) mission platform. 


Projects span the entire development lifecycle, including pursuit and order capture, system design, requirements definition, requirement allocation, requirement traceability, use case development for software/hardware, systems integration, verification testing and qualification. 

The candidate will work closely with fellow systems engineers, Technical Project Engineers (PEs), Product Line / Program Management, software, hardware, electrical and support staff to assure defined requirements are consistently met in all phases of the product lifecycle.  This position will support defining the future of armed forces NC3 defense systems. This position is located in Richardson, TX.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as Systems Engineering design authority for NC3 Solutions.  

  • Lead planning, development, and communication to all levels of leadership – up to and including executive level. 

  • Guide development of Model Based Systems Engineering approach to system development. 

  • Establish trusted and influential relationships with customers and suppliers. 

  • Advise engineering managers, program managers, business development managers, product line managers, and component architects. 

  • Ensures the development of technical risks and assists in defining mitigation plans. 

  • Coordinate across strategic business units for alignment of program development needs.  

  • Lead technical proposal preparation and serve as a subject matter expert in non-advocate, internal and customer reviews.  


Basic Qualifications: 

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience with aircraft level system design & integration. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Expert in systems engineering and open systems architectures.

  • Operations concept development.

  • System and product design.

  • Model & Requirements management.

  • Technical risk management, interface definition and control.

  • Experience with the development of aircraft or avionics systems of systems.

  • Experience with NC3 system architecture development, and systems, software, and hardware engineering.

  • Development of integration and test plans, test cases and procedures.

  • Executing product and system level tests to include experience with automation test tools or scripting.

  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering concepts and tools such as Magic Draw CAMEO, Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect.

  • Experience with regulatory and certification requirements: TSO, DO-160, DO254, DO178B/C, and ARP4754.

  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-1553B, ARINC 661 standard and bus protocols.

  • Experience in technical proposal writing - Make/Buy Decision-making and trade study experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with and communicate with all levels of management and individual contributors on the program team.

  • Ability to travel domestically (up to 25% of time).

  • Experience with bidding utilizing SEER tools.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
