Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of relevant experience (e.g., technical writing, product documentation, online publishing).
  • Experience with source code, C, C++, and/or Go.
  • Experience writing technical customer-facing materials.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience managing a team of technical writers.
  • Experience with video game development and tools, especially Unity or Unreal or graphics engines
  • Experience with authoring and code management tools.
  • Ability to effectively build rapport, advocate for team needs, and relate to other other at all levels..
  • Ability to manage team and individual priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Technical writers communicate complex information clearly, concisely and accurately, and without relying on jargon. As a technical writer, your role involves tasks such as writing conceptual overviews and procedures, reading and writing example code, or updating help center queries and FAQs. Technical writers play a big part at Google. They are a key link between engineers, marketing associates, developer advocates, as well as all the external users and developers, tying together many vital but disparate parts of the Google ecosystem.

Stadia Partner Engineering is the partner facing extension of the core engineering and product organizations. At a high level we're concerned with all aspects of the product that could affect the successful delivery of partner content on the Stadia platform.

As the Editor in Chief of developer documentation for Stadia, you will play a critical role in educating game developers in the about our gaming platform. You will lead a team of technical writers who partner with the Stadia Product and Engineering teams to deliver excellent documentation for Stadia developers and publishers.

In this role, you will thrive on the challenge of keeping documentation relevant and fresh in a fast-growing technical environment. Additionally, you'll quickly adapt and respond to industry changes and internal initiatives, demonstrating a 'get it done’ personality, the ability to make smart, independent decisions, and the leadership to establish clear goals and priorities. With extraordinary attention to detail, flexibility, and creativity, you will be an integral part of the Stadia team, helping it scale and grow.

Stadia is Google’s premier Video Game platform, designed for everyone. We are working on custom built hardware and rapidly evolving open source technology to deliver a seamless gaming experience across multiple devices. Stadia provides players new ways to discover, engage, and connect with content with no download required thanks to our cutting-edge data centers. Our team members are building the tools that will push game development to new levels, reducing the barrier to entry and bringing gaming to everyone. Through the power of Stadia, there is unlimited possibility.

  • Be responsible for Stadia’s education outcomes, creating a cohesive educational experience within the docs and at other educational touch points. 
  • Design plans and processes that enable our Engineers, Product Managers, UX Designers, and Partner Engineers to easily land the best documentation for our external developer audiences.
  • Manage complex documentation projects and mentor the team to manage complex documentation projects.
  • Articulate, implement, and improve on widely-shared success metrics for Stadia's partner education initiatives.
  • Build and manage a team of Tech Writers to land excellent technical documentation for the Stadia platform.
