Position Details:

  • Location: 152 Second Avenue, Needham, MA 02494

  • Department: Laboratory - Anatomical Pathology

  • Schedule: Full time, 40 hours/weekly, Monday through Friday, 3:00pm - 11:30pm

Primary Responsibilities:

  • As the Pathology Grossing Tech, you will perform a variety of tasks related to grossing and processing surgical pathology biopsy and simple specimens.  
  • Responsibilities:
  • Conducts gross examination of biopsy and simple surgical pathology specimens. Performs appropriate specimen identification and labeling, accurately describes gross anatomic features via dictation, and dissects surgical specimens
  • Consults with co-workers, Pathologist Assistant and histology staff as needed
  • Participates in quality assurance initiatives. Contributes new ideas to the improvement of laboratory operations and the attainment of other business objectives. Participates in projects as assigned
  • Maintains detailed records of all specimen dissections and dictations
  • Labels, stores and discards gross tissue specimens
  • Properly maintains equipment and ensures the cleanliness of the surgical pathology suite
  • Assists with inventory, unpacking and storing supplies
  • Completes annual competency assessments
  • Adheres to all laboratory policies and procedures, including safety, compliance, HIPAA, CQI, OSHA, and accreditation guidelines
  • Reviews policy and procedure manuals on an annual basis

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology
  • Qualify as high complexity testing personnel under CLIA
  • Proven excellent dissection technical skills
  • Proficient in the use of laboratory and surgical instruments and equipment
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology 
  • Knowledge of the basic sciences, especially anatomy, and knowledge of surgical pathology and medical terminology
  • Demonstrate solid analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with pathologists/physicians, management, and coworkers

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $23.41 to $41.83 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
