Introduction to the Team:
We're the Insurance team at Expedia Group, and we're on a mission to redefine how travelers experience peace of mind during their journeys. Whether it's trip protection, flight cancellations, or medical emergencies abroad, our goal is to deliver seamless, reliable, and intelligent insurance experiences across Expedia's suite of brands (like Expedia.com, Vrbo, Hotels.com, and more). We work closely with a variety of insurance suppliers to onboard their products into our systems and make them available to customers across multiple booking journeys — during checkout, post-purchase, and even through trip management pages. Our team e sures the right protection is offered at the right time, making travel safer and more confident for millions of users.
In this role, you will:
Design, develop, debug, and modify web services for Insurance micro-services.
Build and enhance front-end applications that deliver high-performance, accessible, and intuitive user experiences.
Lead, coordinate, and collaborate on multiple concurrent and complex cross-organizational initiatives.
Lead the end-to-end product life cycle for mid- to large-scale projects: design, development, testing, deployment, and operational excellence.
Contribute to advancing the team’s design methodology, engineering standards, and quality programming practices.
Mentor junior team members to adapt best practices.
Advocate for industry standards and best practices in development methodologies, UI/UX patterns, and modern frameworks.
Innovate and prototype new ideas to solve complex software problems and enable product MVPs.
Evaluate resource and architectural trade-offs considering scheduling, cost constraints, and cross-team impact.
Anticipate problems and roadblocks before they occur, and clearly present issues and impact to leadership.
Build and maintain a strong network across the company to drive alignment and results.
Collaborate effectively with geographically distributed cross-functional teams.
Drive continuous improvement in software quality and development processes within an agile environment.
Experience and Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.
5+ years of relevant professional experience in full stack development, including proficiency with modern frameworks, system design, API development, data modeling and JavaScript/TypeScript and at least one major UI framework such as, React.js (preferred), Angular or Vue.js
Proven ownership and delivery of features and services spanning multiple areas, including both frontend and backend components.
Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience designing moderately complex, testable, observable backend systems
Strong understanding of micro services, APIs (REST/GraphQL), and distributed system fundamentals.
Understanding of CSS frameworks (Tailwind, Styled Components, CSS Modules, Sass) and State management tools (Redux, Zustand, MobX, NgRx, etc.)
Solid grasp of UI testing frameworks (Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, Playwright)
Ability to debug, monitor, test, and maintain highly available production systems.
Knowledge of interactions between applications, databases, caching layers, and cloud platforms.
