Viasat’s Antenna Systems business segment designs and manufactures antenna systems that lead several satellite communication markets. Worldwide installations include over 100 gateway systems for the most advanced satellite communication networks in the world. These gateways tie broadband satellite networks into high-speed fiber that forms the internet backbone. Other installations include thousands of limited motion antenna systems and over 550 full-motion antennas. In addition, Viasat is the leader in remote sensing antenna systems that process the imaging data for applications like Google Maps. The company’s total of more than 100 of these systems is more than all other providers of these systems worldwide.

Job Responsibilities

  • Mechanical structures that form the antenna
  • Motors and controllers that position the reflectors
  • Radio frequency transmit/receive electronics, high-speed modems, and software systems that deliver a stream of bits to the end customer
  • Low-profile, high-frequency radomes for the airborne terminals

At our Atlanta, GA (Duluth) office we have outdoor test facilities including a multi-system, multi-pad boresite range, two planar nearfield ranges, and nearby a 1500-foot elevated pattern range with associated control room.

This role will require you to work on the development of advanced ground, airborne, and space antenna systems and advancing the art of satellite communications. You will be taking the communications system designs from proposal concept, through design analysis and modeling, documenting and building the design, testing both components and systems, through qualification, to its full implementation, deployment, and support with an emphasis in the antenna system element. This will be done in a team environment that may involve working with engineers in different geographical locations. This role will support both commercial and military antenna system products. It will also involve working with marketing and sales teams for new business development. In this role, you will see your designs become a reality. If this sounds like the job for you, read on.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in Antenna design experience in the satellite communications field (reflectors and arrays desired).
  • Education: MSEE
  • Proficient with analytical & programming tools (e.g., HFSS, TICRA, Mathcad, Matlab, etc.).
  • Interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written) and the ability to work in a team environment and work across divisional boundaries.
  • Ability to work independently and with coordinated group design activities.
  • Satellite communications systems experience.
  • US Citizenship Required

Preferred

  • Hands-on design experience through laboratory testing and system measurement
  • Experience supporting business development with design schedules, and cost estimates
  • Experience and whiling to climb and work on large antennas to visually inspect design
  • Experience designing S, C, X, Ku, and Ka-band optics, reflectors, phased arrays, and feeds
  • Experience with Antenna Design for manufacturing
  • Travel: Up to 10%, Globally
