Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (CHIE) is looking for a Senior Software/Firmware Program Manager to be a part the fast pace and exciting business of Azure. Our CHIE Cloud Hardware Experience Engineering Team is looking for a strong, experienced, energetic and hands on Program Manager to drive software and firmware development for our CHIE organization. We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Software Program Manager with a track record in driving software/firmware initiative and strategy for an organization.  We are looking for a Technical Program Manager to come to help us define and develop firmware requirements for our innovative hardware solutions that power Azure. We need an experienced Program Manager who can be the liaison to our external partners (Silicon Vendors, ODM, OEM, etc.), to drive Microsoft Azure requirements to our partners and can coordinate development efforts with different Azure Engineering teams.  Besides driving firmware requirements and development, we need someone who can also help in controlling firmware release, creating a long-term roadmap for Azure CHIE firmware.  In addition, he/she will be responsible for bringing in systematic software/firmware  development practice to the team.


As a seasoned Program Manager, you must have a strong desire, passion, and ability to understand customer needs and a willingness to develop holistic approaches to product solutions that delight our customers and exceed their expectations.  You should also have a good understanding of hardware, firmware, telemetry, algorithms, software quality, and an unyielding passion for creating products that customer’s fall in love with.  You should have great communication skills to drive programs with multiple teams located in different locations, e.g. Redmond/USA, Taipei/Taiwan, Hyderabad/India.


This ideal candidate should have the following skills and experiences:

  • 7+ years of experience as a Technical Program Manager or in a technical role with systems experience
  • 3+ years of experience working in the firmware development and release control
  • Knowledge of building low-level software to run on hardware e.g. firmware, BIOS, BMC, BSP… etc.
  • Experience in management of complex cross-group, cross-business, cross-disciplinary projects at various lifecycle phases
  • Ability to collaborate with management, internal/external manufacturing and development partners to recommend and implement changes to products.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, prioritize multiple strategic and tactical options, and drive issues to closure with a high bar on quality
  • Technical savvy. Know how to solve the hard problems, and demonstrate the ability to work independently
  • Proven ability to synthesize and communicate solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Exceptional organization and project management skills, e.g. experience with agile project management methodology, TFS, DevOps, JIRA or similar
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent


Bonus qualifications:

  • Experience to work in MNC companies with US R&D headquarters
  • Able work in flexible hours and facilitate regular engineering sync up with Redmond office
  • Project experience working across hardware and low-level (driver, firmware, kernel mode) software teams
  • Experience with firmware development/testing strategy and firmware requirement creation
  • Data center hardware/software project experience from inception to go live
  • Experience working with software code in one or more languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, etc.
  • PMP/PMI certification preferred
