  • Position Overview
    As the Research Manager of the Fusion 360 Machine Learning team, you will drive forward a vision for AI and pilot the technology that will be the backbone of this next generation of design and manufacturing platform. You’ll lead a small, agile team of researchers and engineers that are intensely curious and passionate about the impact of new development in the field of artificial intelligence. You will diagnose challenges our customers face and come up with solutions that apply machine learning techniques in novel ways. Project success will be predicated on developing strong collaborations with product management and engineering teams to move any research ideas into a commercial product. You should be a bridge to Autodesk Research’s AI Lab to identify valuable new technology and provide research suggestions by communicating challenges in manufacturing.

    Responsibilities

    • Create a vision for machine learning for Fusion 360
    • Continually monitor research frontier and technology trends
    • Educate leaders at Autodesk on what machine learning can enable
    • Gather requirements from product management and validate research ideas and prototypes with customers to understand and maintain an awareness of customer desires/preferences/priorities
    • Research and recommend creative approaches to solve a given problem
    • Create processes that make gathering and processing large batches of geometry, physics, and design workflow data more automated and frictionless
    • Develop working prototypes to showcase and validate your solution
    • Communicate research findings to product teams; embed deeply with the engineering teams during a feature integration
    • Present machine learning thought leadership at internal and external events

    Minimum Qualifications

    • BS, MS or PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent
    • Solid understanding of fundamental machine learning algorithms
    • Knowledge of the design and manufacturing industry and experience with CAD modeling
    • Comfortable working in newly forming ambiguous areas where learning and adaptability are key skills
    • Familiarity with design thinking, innovation processes, or research methodologies
    • Proven track record of leading strong teams and building an innovative and creative team culture
    • Ability to break down a large, long lead projects into shorter, clear milestones to deliver value incrementally
    • Excellent at communicating your teams’ projects both orally and visually
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across many organizations to get things done
