This exciting opportunity plays a key role in certain global communications initiatives for the GSG organization. As part of the Global Services Group (GSG) communications team, this role reports to the Vice President of Public Affairs & Communications and manages internal and external communications to support the company’s operations in the Philippines. In addition, as a member of the Manila leadership team, the manager oversees all communications about the company, plus market-specific and GSG initiatives in Manila. The manager creates effective strategies in determining communications programs and channels, helping to advance business initiatives and will also directly advise and influence senior leaders across the market on all matters of communications.

The Role & Responsibilities:

Breadth of Responsibility:

The manager owns and executes market communications, across thousands of colleagues. The manager is a critical player on the CA&C team with a broad scope of responsibilities and significant accountability and visibility across the market. Senior leaders and colleagues look to him/her for counsel and strategy setting for key market-wide initiatives. He/she manages communications programs and channels, using sound judgment and expertise to determine content strategies and sort through competing viewpoints to reach independent conclusions. The manager exhibits excellent verbal, written and multi-media communications skills, a must for effective engagement with the local region and company-wide audiences.  He/she also must maintain composure under pressure, especially in difficult media situations.

Autonomy/Problem Solving & Decision Making:

The manager must excel at prioritization, quick decision making and analytical problem solving. Priorities can shift from day-to-day, requiring him/her to make fast and independent calls on where to focus his/her attention. This individual must respond to media inquiries and help pitch stories to local reporters, requiring quick thinking and composure under pressure.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the senior communications lead providing strategic direction and counsel for market initiatives and issues
  • Provide guidance to the market leadership team, most specifically supporting the General Manager regarding all matters of communications
  • Create market communications strategies for company, market and GSG initiatives and ensures successful execution
  • Oversee content and production of employee intranet site for all colleagues in Manila
  • Lead local PR strategy to support American Express as a great place to work
  • Pitch story ideas, plus write and manage approvals for external opportunities
  • Partner with communications colleagues in other markets to ensure consistent deliver of key messages
  • Oversee the market visual communications strategy and digital/TV screens, serving as subject matter expert on the technology platform and provide oversight and counsel department leaders to ensure this channel delivers the maximum impact of engaging content
  • Develop market-wide updates and announcements for a variety of communications channels
  • Create strategy and provide communications support for market events supporting company/GSG initiatives (e.g., Customer Service Week, Customer Service Awards, JD Power, etc.)
  • Serve on the market Crisis Response Team (CRT), responsible for both internal and external communications, as needed, in the event of a crisis or other emergency.

Minimum Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated and proven ability to develop effective communications strategies and create engaging content across print, video and digital channels
  • Ability to provide effective counsel to senior leaders
  • Thought leadership and strategic to serve as a market lead for company and GSG-wide initiatives, supporting the needs of many clients simultaneously
  • Composure during difficult situations and flexibility in managing multiple priorities
  • Smart judgment especially on prioritization of many communications
  • At least 5+ years of professional experience as a manager with a proven ability to deal with high pressure environments and constant changes
  • Able to effectively collaborate with colleagues across a large organization to support major initiatives, with great attention to detail
  • Web/graphic design and video editing/photography skills (Highly advantageous)
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Mass Communications (Highly Advantageous).
