As an accomplished writer and editor, you will work directly with subject matter experts to create stories that explain complex topics in interesting, applicable ways. You will also contribute to the content team through editing and story direction. For this role, you must enjoy researching, thinking, planning, and composing stories in a way that motivates prospects and customers to engage deeply with the Esri brand. You must also have an interest in GIS and embrace the value of maps as a storytelling medium. Our content team works across multiple distribution channels, but this role will allow you to focus on strategic writing and editing for high-profile content channels. As a writer at Esri, you can utilize content strategy and storytelling skills to increase awareness of our brand.
Responsibilities
- Produce compelling journalism content and thought leadership
- Write, edit, and/or repurpose stories to meet specific business objectives for specific audiences
- Work with subject matter experts across the company, interview customers, and conduct additional research to develop original stories
- Find smart, creative ways to develop or reframe content for and from strategic articles, blogs, and podcasts
- Write impactful headlines and calls-to-action
- Write and edit for quality, consistency, clarity, brevity, accuracy, and readability
- Work proactively and volunteer assistance without being asked and under tight turnarounds
- Manage relationships with other teams
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience as an editor, copywriter, marketing writer, or journalist
- Experience operating a marketing content channel
- Strong interest and/or experience with maps, GIS, and IT
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A proven blend of editorial and storytelling skills
- Strong ability to translate complex concepts into clear, compelling, customer-centric copy and content for digital channels
- Fast and insightful research skills
- Enthusiasm for web metrics that gauge content performance
- Above-average tenacity, strong work ethic, and desire to constantly improve and share insights
- Bachelor’s or higher in communications, marketing, journalism, or English
