Data Scientist–Fraud Strategy(Alpharetta,GA/Charlotte,NC/Chicago,IL/Frisco,TX/Kettering,OH)

The AVP, Data Scientist for Fraud Strategy will provide exciting opportunities to develop and deliver the future of our Fraud Prevention Toolset.

We are looking for an innovative and naturally curious individual with experience in big data environments and computer programming who will play a central role in working with internal and external parties to deliver the next generation of our Fraud Prevention infrastructure.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Perform data analysis to support advanced analytics initiatives in the fraud arena
  • Engage with external and internal parties to understand data from different sources
  • Analyze and explore datasets to find opportunities to mitigate fraud through data analytics
  • Independently extract and analyze data from multiple technology systems/platforms and related data sources
  • Partner with SME’s across the organization to accelerate learning of data structure and contents
  • Present results of analysis to team and other parties (external and internal)
  • Create metrics to measure/track performance of initiatives
  • Excellent Communication skills to be able to present findings to senior management
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as needed
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree, 3+ years of experience working with data/analytics in the banking/financial services industry or in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree, 6 years of experience working with data/analytics in the banking/financial services industry
  • 3+ years of experience performing data analytics and analyzing trends
  • 3+ years of advanced programming with C++, R, and/or Python
  • 3+ years working with large data sets
  • Exposure to big data tools (Hadoop, Spark, Sqoop, etc.)
  • Experience with machine learning, AI, and/or statistical algorithms
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned
Desired Characteristics:
  • Natural curiosity and passion to drive change in consumer banking for the better
  • MBA / Master’s degree preferred in statistics, computer science, mathematics, finance, engineering, or other quantitative fields.
  • Proven analytical skills with strong attention to detail and quality control of work product.
  • Experience in distributed computing or cloud computing.
  • Demonstrated excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Experience collaborating with teams of internal and external technical staff, business analysts, software support and operations staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation and presentation to business users or management teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new languages and tools
Eligibility Requirements:
  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the selection process
  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
  • If currently a Synchrony Financial Employee, you must have been in your current position for at least 6 months (Level 4 – 7) or 24 months (level 8 or greater), have at least a “consistently meets expectations” performance rating and have the approval of your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR to apply if you don’t meet the time-in-job or performance requirement
