Position Summary

Acquiring, moving, and integrating key talent across the organization is one of the most critical investments of BMS. Getting the right people, in the right role, at the right time, to deliver our business strategy for our patients is the goal of the Talent Management team.  As a key member of the Talent Management and Research and Development (R&D) HR Leadership Teams, the Global Talent Management Lead will be responsible for developing and executing our Talent Philosophy, integrated talent and people strategies, and bringing forth external trends and analytical insights within our R&D organization.

This role is accountable for delivering exceptional results associated with the design and execution of talent management tools, processes, diversity and inclusion efforts, and initiatives that support BMS’ mission.  The Global Talent Management Lead will be responsible for setting our holistic talent strategy to help proactively drive: succession planning, talent development, strategic capability building , talent reviews, talent analytics, employee engagement, executive coaching, performance management, contribute insights toward employment value proposition research, and advancing our diversity and inclusion efforts.

Key Responsibilities

We’re looking for a highly motivated candidate who will:

  • Serve as the single point of contact for all Talent Management related activities for the R&D organization. Will also be an active member of the R&D HR Leadership Team
  • Proactively drive our talent philosophy and strategy while supporting company strategy, processes, and tools, including partnership with other HR Centers of Excellence (COE) to ensure a consistent, employee-centered design.
  • Enhance the tools and processes used to support BMS’ Talent Management initiatives– which include the accurate identification of leadership potential talent, critical role positions, retention risk assessment, and succession plans for all critical role positions (including for the BMS Leadership Team).
  • Partner with HRBPs and the Business Leaders to build the strategic talent approach and build their talent capability while executing against it.  Hold regular functional talent review meetings that foster talent sharing across R&D as well as with other areas of the business as appropriate that ensures appropriate follow-through and decision making.
  • Create our Strategic Workforce Planning approach that will align business strategy into meaningful talent actions (build/borrow/buy/bot) to ensure we have the right people in the right role, at the right time. Leverage analytics to measure impact of talent actions.  Execute against this approach in the R&D organization.
  • Gather, analyze, and synthesize data from talent review sessions into meaningful deliverables, report key talent metrics and manage post-talent review processes that ensure proper follow through of actions determined at talent review sessions. Leverage analytics COE to drive and inform additional talent metrics
  • Analyze data to identify, develop, and retain high potential talent across BMS as well as to build succession plans with a focus on diverse talent.
  • Develop leadership potential and critical role talent that are identified through BMS’ Talent Planning process via coaching, mentoring, 360 feedback, etc.
  • Lead capability building for accurate identification of high potentials, talent planning and succession-planning, partnership in the selection and onboarding processes, assessment and development planning.
  • Benchmark externally to determine best in class approaches in support of our integrated talent strategy.
  • Manage all company talent assessments (e.g. 360s) and introduce new assessments where opportunities exist; ensure all processes around assessments are clear and well defined and continue to build BMS’ internal executive coaching capability to close gaps where needed.

Qualifications & Experience

Our desired qualifications and experience are:

  • 7-10 years of broad HR experience with a focus on or having deep talent management expertise.  Organizational development or HRBP experience.  Pharmaceutical/Biotech environment preferred.
  • Experience setting talent strategy inclusive of designing, developing, and supporting organization-wide talent management programs that cover talent development, executive coaching, succession planning, data analytics, diversity and inclusion, and relationship management.
  • Effectively partner, collaborate and influence with Business Leaders, HRBP colleagues, and those in the COE to deliver the most qualified talent for BMS
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing talent strategies that drive business strategy. Has a solid business strategy mindset and agility to adapt to the changing environment.
  • Deep understanding and use of talent analytics.
  • Experience leading and driving Strategic Workforce Planning from translating business objectives into talent needs and associated build/borrow/buy/bot strategies to deliver an integrated talent strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to develop meaningful and trusted relationships with all levels of the organization and manage stakeholders within a highly matrixed organization; work across cross-functional, cross-organizational teams (including outsource providers and contractors, if necessary) and effectively communicate ideas and influence stakeholders to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation with the ability to simultaneously manage deadlines for a variety of initiatives against competing priorities
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred in Industrial/Organizational Psychology or Organizational Development or related discipline is preferred.
