As a Survey Data Analyst on the Helm team, you will play a pivotal role in elevating our survey research and data analytics. You will support the design, implementation, and analysis of survey projects with a focus on communicating our research findings to internal and external audiences. Successful candidates will feel comfortable working with raw data and enjoy turning those data into clear visualizations, analyses, and insights. This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Polling.

What you’ll do:
  • Work with cross-functional teams of researchers, designers, product managers, engineers, marketers, and data scientists to understand Helm’s strategic goals and survey data needs 
  • Apply your data wrangling and analysis skills to provide clear visualizations, understand public opinion on key issues, and produce actionable insights
  • Tackle challenging data problems to ensure our data are clean, organized, and easy to use
  • Support survey design and planning by contributing to questionnaire design, sampling, and weighting methodology
  • Work closely with the Director of Polling to manage vendors and support the administration of surveys across multiple modes including live caller, text, and online surveys
  • Build and maintain clear documentation for survey processes and data including codebooks and questionnaire dictionaries
Skills you should have:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably with a concentration in statistics or a social science field
  • At least one year of work experience conducting data analysis, solving data problems, and/or conducting social science research
  • Experience turning raw data into visualizations and analyses for non-technical audiences
  • Solid understanding of data management and manipulation using SQL
  • An understanding of basic statistics and social science research methods
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and apply creative solutions to open-ended problems
  • The awareness and knowledge to work with others from different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences in a meaningful and productive manner
  • A passion for public opinion and data exploration
Skills you could have:
  • Prior experience conducting survey research and analyzing public opinion data
  • An understanding of survey methodology and survey research design 
  • Experience with CRMs, campaigns and/or civic organizing products
  • Advanced statistics training with a bonus for the ability to use syntax-based statistical packages (e.g. R, SAS, Stata, MATLAB, etc.) 
  • Basic exposure to general purpose programming (Python, Java, or C) 
  • Significant experiences with data sourcing, management, and merging that includes working with disparate data sets
  • Passion for civic engagement, campaigns, and equitability
