The Global Product & Technology team at Condé Nast is looking for a Design Lead to focus on WIRED's website and mobile applications.

You will partner closely with product, engineering, research, marketing, analytics, and editorial teams to help shape the publication’s digital presence as we continue to expand our web and mobile offerings.

What you’ll do:

  • Work with product, design, and engineering to create an experience that increases reader engagement, builds loyalty, and drives subscriber growth.

  • Collaborate with our user-research team to qualitatively understand and improve paths from anonymous readers to paying subscribers via research and testing.

  • Partner with our platform teams to introduce new components and functionality into our global design system, Verso.

  • Cultivate relationships with WIRED's editorial and creative teams to elevate and articulate the brand vision.

  • Drive clarity in undefined, yet complex problem spaces; balance contributing individual work and setting direction for other designers

  • Manage 1-2 product designers on your team, directing and facilitating their day-to-day work with the support of the larger design organization

  • Develop and drive the process and approach for tackling a problem and creating successful solutions

  • Support high-level product strategy, ensuring we’re asking the right questions and solving for distinct user and business needs

  • Collaborate with engineers in multiple locations, on implementing the features you and your team design, and ensure the visual and user experience quality of our output

  • Participate on the design and platform leadership teams, setting the tone and shaping our organizational culture while evangelizing the value of user experience design, research, and writing

Your qualifications:

  • A portfolio that shows a wealth of clear UX solutions, strong visual design, and the ability to make sense of complex user-journeys

  • Experience leading and shipping large web and mobile products, and managing designers within a product development context

  • Familiarity and experience with hypothesis-driven design as well as qualitative and quantitative testing; a data-driven mindset

  • An established approach to framing and solving hard problems and a rich understanding of a range of design and research tools and methods

  • Experience with current web technology capabilities and limitations (HTML/CSS/modern web frameworks)

  • Confident and enthusiastic collaborator and communicator

  • Experience managing senior stakeholders and their expectations across departments

  • Experience with, or a desire to learn how to work within a globally distributed team

  • How you’ve designed clear and thoughtful experiences that strike a balance between user and business needs

  • Your process for problem-solving (rather than just polished, final design work)

  • How you collaborate with product managers and contribute to overall product strategy

  • Varying types of design artifacts, and your sensibility of which design exercises meet a particular purpose

  • A passion for cultural brands and a desire to tackle the challenges facing the media industry today

Role:

  • This is a Design Lead role on Condé Nast's Global Product and Technology Team.

  • You will support WIRED by working cross-functionally with product, engineering, research, and analytics teams.

  • This role reports to the Senior Product Design Director for Condé Nast's subscription brands, and interfaces directly with WIRED's editorial, creative, and marketing teams.
