The Role

Alloy is seeking to hire an experienced DevOps Engineer to continue scaling and securing our applications. We're looking for someone with significant experience creating and maintaining high-availability applications and infrastructure. Our customers are banks, not any old app users, so we need as many “nines” as we can get! Even though you have a healthy sense of skepticism, you’re an enabler – not an inhibitor. We’re creating a DevOps organization that helps everyone build software with scalability and security from the start. We need an efficiency evangelist, not a server snob!

If you can’t tell, this job is really important for us as a team and product. If DevOps is often seen as the bass player in the band, you’re the Tina Weymouth to our Talking Heads! Not only will you be greatly appreciated by the team, but you’ll also be able to join at a point where you can help own the whole infrastructure end-to-end. It’s a big challenge, but don’t worry, we’ll show you the ropes.

You’ll be working with members of the engineering team of all stripes – from our CTO to front end and back end developers across many different apps. You’ll build your chef-dœuvre in Chef (or killer conquest choreographing containers) all while enabling developers to create apps in the best way possible.

About You
  • 3+ years of rigorous real-world work experience in DevOps, site reliability engineering, systems administration, or back-end development
  • Accomplished at:
  • >> Linux systems administration
  • >> A variety of AWS services (EC2, RDS, Elasticache, security tools)
  • >> Managing other applications in our stack: PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, Node.js and Python apps
  • >> PostgreSQL/ general SQL database administration
  • Knowledge and proficiency with a variety of ops and automation tools
  • Great at creating scripts to get what you need
  • Proving your point with testing and data
  • Staying on top of things with monitoring and alerting
  • Good communication, organization, time-management, and prioritization skills
  • Understanding ops challenges and how they can be addressed during design and development
  • Self-motivated, analytical, and ambitious
Responsibilities Include
  • Helping us develop faster, deploy safer, and sleep with confidence at night knowing that PagerDuty is not going to wake us up!
  • Anticipating future traffic or upcoming release requirements and their capacity implications
  • Hunting down those pesky hard-to-reach errors and figuring out ways to prevent them
  • Working with the dev team to be their go-to guru of ultimate wisdom 🧙🔮
  • Supporting the creation of analytics and reporting in our applications and stack
  • Creating postmortems for unexpected incidents to discover future hazards
