The Power of Storytelling in Social Change
Pride: Championing LGBTQIA+ Leaders & Allies
If you’re like Brian Wenke, you can rattle off a number of social issues that you want to have an impact on. But moving the needle on social change requires more than desire—it requires resources. So how do you acquire those resources? In this talk, Brian, the Executive Director & CEO of the It Gets Better Initiative, will share the keys to telling stories that motivate others and move social issues to the forefront of public awareness.
Brian Wenke
Brian Wenke (pronouns: he/him) is the Executive Director of leading LGBTQ+ non profit, the It Gets Better Project, and has led the global storytelling effort to empower LGBTQ+ youth since 2016. He has spearheaded multi-national campaigns to connect and engage with LGBTQ+ youth where they
live, work, and socialize – and has successfully leveraged corporate and institutional partnerships to expand the It Gets Better Project’s reach, which now spans four continents and eight languages.
Under his leadership, the It Gets Better Project has raised millions in support through partnerships with Fortune 500 brands, and has expanded the organization’s Global Affiliate Network to Guatemala, Hungary, Panama, India, Russia, Canada, Argentina, Peru, United Kingdom, and the Dominican Republic. His expertise has been featured in major publications including Ad Age, ELLE, Vanity Fair, Forbes, Teen Vogue and The Hollywood Reporter, among others.
Prior to the It Gets Better Project, Brian secured more than $25 million to tackle issues associated with healthcare disparities (American Cancer Society), global conservation efforts (Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association), and affordable housing and access to the arts (Art Share LA).
Brian is a proud alumnus of the University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music (BFA) and Brandman University (MBA), and currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
