Job Purpose

The Vice President of HR (VP HR) provides executive-level leadership to the DCPA and is accountable for leading the full range of all human resource functions. This role is instrumental in helping to create a highly engaged, high performing organization to deliver on the mission of the Denver Center. The VP HR is responsible for setting, implementing, guiding, and evaluating legally compliant human resources policies and procedures, and identifying and implementing long-range strategic talent management goals. The VP HR leads the organization’s team member experience including talent acquisition, total rewards compensation and benefits, HR operations including benefits administration and payroll, organizational effectiveness, training & development, and employee engagement. This role will lead at both the hands-on and strategic level by partnering with the cross-functional teams to design and execute strategies that motivate and retain our talented team, while fulfilling their personal aspirations and long-term career ambitions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains management-level HR staff.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, helping to define the overall strategic vision and direction of the organization
  • Partner with the Management Team to identify and deploy impactful people strategies and policies that enable the organization to succeed
  • Serve as Board liaison for HR-related board communication and presentations including participation with the Audit & Compensation Committee and the Governance, People and Culture Committee
  • Partner with the Executive Director of Equity and Organization Culture and serve as a principal leader in the organization’s efforts to assess current Human Resources practices, develop personnel policies that uphold equity and belonging, and model leadership in times of change
  • Manage a team of professionals who oversee payroll, compensation, and benefits, and serve as the strategic coach for the Executive Team
  • Create talent management strategies that reflect the company’s core values, including goal setting, annual performance reviews, employee improvement plans and succession planning
  • Develops human resource planning models to identify competency, knowledge and talent gaps and develop specific programs to fill the identified gaps. Areas of activity will include talent management through proper succession planning programs, training, and development programs for preparing employees for more significant responsibilities, and general business development programs to enhance employee knowledge and understanding of the company
  • Oversee occupational development and professional training opportunities
  • Lead with a strong ethical and social conscience, driven by a knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, as well as non-profit sector employment policies and procedures
  • Create a strong feedback loop to ensure that employees and management are well-served by the Human Resources department
  • Coach and advise the executive team using effective communication, teambuilding, and conflict resolution methods
  • Support employee engagement and overall company culture through engagement initiatives
  • Establish company-wide compensation and benefits strategies that will ensure the Denver Center provides competitive and equitable compensation packages
  • Conduct regular reviews of company policies and procedures to ensure all human resource practices are updated and implemented on a regular basis in collaboration with senior leadership , lead employee recognition strategies to honor individuals and teams for exceptional work in an effort to build a culture of respect, appreciation and acknowledgement
  • Long-range goal: develop, implement, and oversee a dynamic internship and professional exchange program to establish an employee pipeline
Qualifications
  • Minimum education: bachelor's degree in human resources management, business administration or a related field preferred
  • 10+ years of professional experience leading a Human Resources department for an organization of comparable size to the Denver Center
  • Three+ years of experience preferred at the executive leadership level in Human Resources working with Finance, Technology Services, Operations, and Sales and Marketing functions
  • Leadership presence a must, with a high degree of energy, self-confidence, and public speaking abilities
  • Experience presenting to and communicating with members of the Board of Trustees
  • Have an interest and passion in working for mission-driven organizations, arts organizations, or theatre. Excellent communications and influencing skills
  • Proven ability to lead a dynamic team and achieve business results through others in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong experience with employee relations, investigation skills, resourcing, learning and development, unions and union negotiations, and all aspects of talent management
  • Strong experience will full-circle HR functions including operations, benefits administration, payroll, and HR compliance
  • Compensation budget management experience in a complex multi-disciplinary environment
  • Budget management and forecasting experience for a single multi-level business unit and demonstrated experience with financial and business analysis techniques
Working Conditions

Typical office environment or Production environment. This position operates in a professional office environment during regular business hours. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, and is required to move throughout the DCPA complex.
