Job Description

We now have a vacancy for an Mechanical, Automation, Maintenance and Fitter (MAMF) Apprentice to join our Engineering team in AbbVie Manorhamilton Road (Closing date January 18th 2026). In this role you be part of a multi-functional Engineering team and work closely with engineering supervisors to train on Mechanical, Electrical, Automation and Utility maintenance onsite in a pharmaceutical processing facility in line with all safety, regulatory and operational requirements.

The candidate will be give training experience on operation and maintenance of a wide variety of electrical and mechanical equipment, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement

Responsibilities:
• Engage in an On and Off the job learning program delivered by both MSLETB and AbbVie. During
this time work under the guidance of the relevant ENG department to learn and provide support
to the department.
• Provide support to production systems and control systems related issues. Support tasks include:
o Execution of daily checks.
o Execution of routine Preventative Maintenance Work orders.
o Daily trouble shooting of issues as required.
o Support of engineering initiatives and projects as required.
o Completion of Workshop/Toolroom tasks as required.
• Support Maintenance shutdown program for production equipment & systems
• Support maintenance and installation plans for new equipment, provide reliability and
maintainability specifications for new equipment, input to the development of support plans for
new equipment.
• Support of the Maintenance Excellence Program (MEP) key performance indicators (KPI’s)
parameters such as asset utilization, maintenance cost, site maintenance compliance, schedule
etc.
• Gain knowledge in methods - RCA (Root Cause Analysis) - A3 solving problems to prevent and
eliminate the likelihood or frequency of failures in site system and determining the use of
predictive maintenance technologies.
• Support internal audits on engineering systems; support external audits and ensure adherence to
company safety and quality standards, policies, and procedures.
• Participate constructively as a member of the dept, keeping everyone informed and proactively
share and receive knowledge and expertise within the team.
• Gain proficiency in the use of Computer Management Maintenance System (Maximo), to create
WO’s, new or updated PM’s, new assets, inventories, and spare parts.
• Identifying continuous improvement activities and participating in cross-functional teams to
implement. Supporting activities in the areas of cost reduction, process efficiency and operational
excellence.
• Support the identification and project management of continuous improvement projects.
• Support the development and update of documentation for the department.
• Adheres to and supports all Quality, EHS&E standards, procedures, and policies.

• Provide technical and engineering support on closing out of outstanding HAZOP and PHA (Process
Hazard Analysis) actions for the area.
• Work closely with vendors and contractors on the technical and engineering systems
improvements and preventative maintenance services through SLA (Service level Agreements)

 


Qualifications

  • Apprentice must be 18 years or over.
  • Educational standard – Grade D or higher in 4 subjects at Leaving Certificate level.
  • Relevant experience of engineering roles or other industrial/commercial roles desirable but not
  • essential.
  •  Practical electrical and mechanical aptitude and ability to learn new skills.
