The Hitachi Energy Indian Operations Center (INOPC) is a competence center with around 2600+ skilled engineers who focus on tendering, engineering, planning, procurement, functional system testing, installation supervision and commissioning. However, over the last decade, it has evolved to become the largest engineering hub. The India Operations Centre is a key aspect of the Power Grids business Power Up transformation program. The INOPC team at Chennai supports Hitachi Energy’s units in more than 40 countries across a wide portfolio of all the four business units in Power Grid business. To date, the team has executed engineering and commissioning for projects in more than 80 countries. You will be part of HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current), a business unit within Hitachi Energy located in Chennai. The unit develops, manufactures and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. The HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances and for power transmission via submarine cables. HVDC is also used to connect power systems. In this role you will design authority for an engineering discipline with low to medium complexity. Complete assignments on small projects or portions of larger projects, cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements.

Your responsibilities:
Be responsible for evaluating the harmonic performance and, if needed, design filters to meet the project requirements. This involves also to evaluate and influence how the HVDC converter control affects the harmonics. This is performed by doing advanced system simulations of the HVDC converters, connected AC networks and DC transmission links.
Be involved in the designing of HVDC converter stations until verification measurements at site.
Develop design tools that improve our studies and processes.
Work with land-based converter stations as well as offshore converter stations, e.g. for connection of wind parks.
Cooperate, both internally within and outside of our department and also externally, with customers and sub suppliers. Here, negotiation skills will be useful.
Participate in conferences and standardization work groups in your field within the international engineering communities.

Your background:
Master of Engineering - Power System (2 - 10 years' experience)/ PhD - Power System (1-5 years expeience) .
Extensive knowledge of Power Systems studies and modelling of electrical network.
Understanding and design of Electrical Power Systems and controls.
Preferably knowledge on IEC/IEEE standards.
Preferably Understanding application of Power Electronics in HV/EHV system like HVDC and FACTS.
Proven skills in using computers as a calculation tool.
Preferably experience of power system simulation tools such as PSSE, EMTDC /PSCAD and calculations in Matlab / Mathcad.
Strong interpersonal communication skill, Fluent English.
Extensive knowledge of Power Systems equipment and their purpose, such as Power Transformers, Capacitors, Reactors, Instrument Transformer and measuring equipment, Circuit Breakers, Disconnector, Surge Arrester etc.
Knowledge in selection, sizing and integration of above equipment based on customer functional specification.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
