We are seeking a highly organized and communicative individual to join our Analytics and Performance Excellence (APEX) organization on our Data Governance team as Manager, Data Governance reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Data Governance. In this pivotal role, you will help drive the execution of AbbVie’s Data Governance strategy by collaborating across business and technical teams to enhance our data stewardship, data governance, data quality, metadata, and data policy initiatives. You will play a central part in managing key Data Governance processes, supporting the implementation of standards, and ensuring effective, compliant, and high-quality use of data assets.
The ideal candidate is an effective stakeholder manager and communicator with a strong analytical mindset, curiosity about how data works, and a passion for operational excellence. Three to five years’ experience in Data Governance, Metadata, and Data Quality is a must. Data Privacy is a plus, but candidates with strong capacity to learn, and a keen interest in data and data-driven disciplines, are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a primary point of contact for Data Governance processes and initiatives within assigned domains.
- Partner with business and technical stakeholders to maintain and enhance metadata, data quality, and stewardship activities.
- Participate in the development and review of data governance policies, standards, and documentation, ensuring conformance and quality.
- Support operational processes such as Critical Data Element (CDE) reviews, business glossary/catalog management, and Data Quality rule assessments.
- Facilitate communication and training to ensure stakeholders are informed and engaged in Data Governance processes and best practices.
- Analyze and monitor key metrics to track compliance, data quality, and adoption of governance frameworks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams Vendors, technology team, Business teams to evolve data management processes and deliver data products that meet changing needs.
- Assist in preparing presentations, reporting, and metrics for Data Governance program updates and Data Working Groups.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives, including tool adoption (e.g., Alation) and automation opportunities.
- Support ad hoc analysis, project coordination, and documentation as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree required (preferred in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or related field).
- 5 years of experience in Data Governance, Data Stewardship, Metadata and Data Quality is a must. Data privacy experience is a plus.
- Experience leading initiatives that improve data quality, access, or usability
- Strong working knowledge of data platforms and tools to support data processing and analysis (e.g., Excel, Dataiku, Snowflake, etc.)
- Familiarity with large datasets and the ability to guide others in efficient data handling
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Quick learner with the ability and desire to understand data structures, business context, and governance frameworks.
- Familiarity with data management/governance platforms (e.g., Alation, Collibra, Informatica), business glossary or data catalog tools is helpful, but not required.
- Proficiency in Excel and/or SQL; experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.
- Experience working in an IT or technical role is a strong plus.
- Health care, pharmaceutical, or highly regulated industry experience preferred, but not required.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.
