Our R&D engineers and scientists develop breakthrough technologies that change the way the world works, and industries do business. We constantly push the limits of convention, while retaining our focus on delivering quality products and solutions to our customers.
Power Electronics in Hitachi Energy has over 100 years of history, it’s started from development and manufacturing of Mercury-Arc Valves; introduction of breakthrough technologies like HVDC; pioneering power semiconductor manufacturing; bringing electricity to transportation; and enabling Smarter, Stronger and Greener Power Grids.
Hitachi Energy has committed to Net-Zero in the 2050 strategy, focusing R&D development to deliver technologies which support achieving The Carbon-Neutral Future. The backbone for the grid transformation is Power Electronics, where we are developing new efficient solutions for: integrating renewables, providing energy storage, improving power quality, and enabling green transportation & eMobilty solutions.
The Power Electronics team based in Turgi Switzerland is a highly skilled, cross-functional team of engineers in the domains Power Electronics, HW Electronics, and Mechanical Engineering. As a part of the team expansion, you will join the team remotely, with other colleagues from Krakow. You will develop a new breakthrough medium voltage modular converter platform for a range of grid and DC applications. You are expected to push the technology boundaries in terms of efficiency, size and operational performance. If you are ready for the challenge, then join us.
Reporting to R&D Team Manager Switzerland supported by local hosting Technology Manager GI T&SD Krakow you will cooperate with global R&D teams. A creative environment allows you to utilize your knowledge and skills in technology and product development to identify and implement innovative solutions for a new Product Platform.
Your responsibilities:
- Be part of the design process for our future MV converter cells and other power electronic sub-systems of our converter stations and take a leading role to take new ideas from idea generation through concept design, prototyping and verification all the way to production.
- Work in new product development projects focusing on valve mechanical design tasks involving multi-disciplinary areas – for example heat transfer, electrical insulation, strength of materials and manufacturing technologies.
- Perform mechanical design for converter valve components including design calculations, preparation of design specifications and technical documents.
- Preparation of 3D CAD Models, drawings, BOM, and Material Master Data handling in the ERP System.
- Participate in various product verification tests from early prototype testing to final verification of converter valve design.
- As the main part of the team is in Switzerland a willingness to travel and sometimes work from abroad, e.g. building up prototypes in the R&D Laboratory in Switzerland is required.
- Maintenance activities on our existing products, e.g. implementing product improvements and support resolving field failures.
- Contribute to solving technical challenges related with EMC/EMI, thermal management & safety. This role requires a product lifecycle perspective in the design work by considering various aspects like reliability, safety, maintainability, tooling and manufacturing requirements.
Your background:
- You are curious and interested in sustainability and the ongoing energy transition and want to work on key technologies to solve one of the biggest challenges for humanity today.
