Job Description

Reporting to the Medical Director

Your role at AbbVie

Represent the affiliate’s medical and scientific voice of expertise for the TA (Immunology) products and therapeutic areas. Provide scientific and strategic input into Medical Affairs strategies for the affiliate medical department and brand plans, as required, and medical / scientific support for medical department activities under the overall direction of the Affiliate Medical Director.  Provide medical affairs leadership to cross-functional affiliate Immunology brand teams and ensure that the medical affairs role is fully integrated in Immunology brand teams. 

Take the lead in the Belgian TA medical team to assure scientific leadership for AbbVie’s current product and portfolio. Provide medical / scientific expert guidance to key customers for assigned products and relevant therapeutic areas, including scientific exchange and professional relationship development with key thought leaders and external experts. Provide strategic direction and mentorship to direct reports and fulfill line management responsibilities accordingly. 

Highlighted Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Immunology medical team (Medical Managers, Medical Advisors & MSLs)
  • Develop and maintain in depth knowledge for assigned product(s) / relevant therapeutic area(s)
  • Provide expert medical/scientific advice for assigned products and related therapeutic areas; contribute to the development and medical and scientific accuracy of core dossiers generated by the medical department (i.e. pricing and reimbursement dossiers, HEOR dossiers, medical information packs, clinical expert reviews etc.).
  • Ensure strategic alignment within the TA and excellence in Medical plans (including budget), strategic meetings development and execution.
  • Establish and maintain professional and credible relationships with key thought leaders / external experts and academic centers.
  • Ensure optimal training is delivered to team members, including IFT and other departments when appropriate.
  • Ensure Local Evidence Generation strategy in collaboration with the local Affiliate Research Lead and monitor excellence in execution. Provide the required oversight to IIS studies, NIS and Research collaboration.
  • Ensure excellence in ONE R&D wow in collaboration with the CCOM: Ensure optimal support of the TA medical team to Clinical Site Monitoring department in the management of clinical studies, as appropriate.
  • Manage the Grant requests for the TA.
  • Ensure the medical/scientific content of promo and non-promo material developed by the TA teams is correct and fully compliant with AbbVie’s internal policies and guidelines.
  • Provide medical/scientific input into marketing strategy and key commercial initiatives, as required.
  • Monitor the environment for competitive intelligence (e.g. product strategies, studies, commercial messages, positioning, etc.) and communicate, where appropriate, within the Company.

Qualifications

  • Medical Degree or Master’s degree in scientific discipline or higher.
  • Fluently in English, Dutch and/or French.
  • Experimented in medical affairs with min 5 years of experience.
  • People Manager with experience in building and developing highly motivated teams and attracting new talents.
  • Keen interest in developing and maintaining expert knowledge for assigned therapeutic area/product and in medical research in general.
  • Strong commitment to compliance with the relevant rules and procedures, and to scientific quality and integrity.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach, able to develop and support relationships across an organization as well as with key external stakeholders and the healthcare community at large. 
  • Experience being an active contributor to cross-functional teams and/or working in matrix organizations.   Works independently:  limited guidance/oversight.  Works broadly across functions to facilitate and support the affiliate’s medical and clinical activities as necessary.
