The Program Chief Engineer, Small Military Engines is a key leadership role within the Military Engines Engineering (MEE) organization at Pratt & Whitney (P&W). The Program Chief Engineer (PCE) will lead a cross-functional engineering team through the design, development, manufacturing, assembly, analytical verification, system-level test validation and air vehicle system integration of a new small gas turbine engine. This activity will be part of an agile and fast-paced Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) program funded through contract and internal company investment. The PCE will be responsible for successful execution of this program as the primary focal to the external weapons systems and government customers as well as internal stakeholders and leadership.
This position can be in East Hartford, Connecticut, or West Palm Beach, Florida.
What You Will Do
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external weapon systems and government customers on high-visibility, fast-paced programs critical to company strategy.
- Lead a cross-functional engineering team through Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD), focusing on small engine design and development.
- Oversee the procurement, analytical verification, and system-level test validation for small engine development.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure low-cost manufacturing and assembly for small engine production.
- Coordinate air vehicle system integration with the engine and manage system ground and flight testing while driving agile framework usage for speed and risk management.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- 12 years of Engineering experience, or 10 years engineering experience with an advanced degree
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, effectively conveying technical and project details to diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated team and technical leadership, fostering collaboration and guiding engineering teams toward successful project execution.
- Subject matter expertise in propulsion systems design, development, and production, with a focus on small turbojet and turbofan gas turbine engines.
- Proven record in air vehicle integration, working closely with weapons systems contractors and government customers to meet program goals.
- Proficiency in agile frameworks, principles, and execution for efficient project and team management, along with experience in digital systems engineering.

MEE consists of Program Chief Engineers who provide leadership and support for Military Engine programs, including Fighters (F100, F119), Mobility (F117, PW4062 for KC-46 Tanker), TF-33, F135, Military Development Programs, and APU’s as well as the Engine Life Management Team
This position is open to internal applicants only within Pratt & Whitney. To help shore up our military programs, we are looking to reallocate resources to USG direct charging roles and therefore consider this to be an internal to Pratt movement. We may look to open these opportunities upon more broadly once we complete the initial Pratt talent moves.
The salary range for this role is 143,000 USD - 287,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays.
