We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist I at AbbVie’s Lake County, Illinois location to join our growing cancer research organization. The scientist will join a team focused on discovering and validating novel cancer targets, driving discovery programs, and leading laboratory-based initiatives. They will propose, develop, and optimize innovative methods, act as the lead in their area of expertise, and critically assess scientific and regulatory developments to integrate into research and development efforts.
- Identify tumor-intrinsic targets followed by mechanistic interrogation and drug candidate development.
- Lead and conduct scientific research of early-stage discovery programs.
- Resolve key project hurdles with available information from literature and internal experts.
- Generate and execute novel hypotheses while maintaining a high level of productivity in the lab. Formulate conclusions and design follow-on experiments based on multi-modal data.
- Possess excellent skills in scientific writing for internal reports, external presentations, and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Analyze, integrate, and interpret large-scale, high-dimensional datasets to drive strategic research decisions.
- May mentor/supervise scientists and evaluate their performance.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 10 years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 8 years of experience, PhD and no experience necessary. Experience must be in cell/molecular biology, oncogenic pathways, cell death signaling, and/or translational research in Oncology
- Extensive experience in oncology, drug discovery, and/or translational research is preferred.
- Impactful research experience as demonstrated by track record of publications, patents and/or scientific accomplishments is essential, as is the ability to engage internal and external scientific leaders in collaborative research.
- Proficiency in coding (e.g. R, python, etc.) and advanced data analysis techniques, including computational tools and statistical methods, to handle complex, high-dimensional scientific datasets.
- Ability to develop novel assays and cellular models for exploring mechanisms in oncology and along with working knowledge of novel functional genomic screening technologies is required.
- Ability to work collaboratively across diverse disciplinary environments.
- Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
