Medidata follows a hybrid office policy in which employees who are hired for an in-person position are expected to work on site a certain number of days per week in accordance with Company policy.

About our Company:

Medidata is powering smarter treatments and healthier people through digital solutions to support clinical trials. Celebrating 25 years of ground-breaking technological innovation across more than thirty six thousand trials and 11 million patients, Medidata offers industry-leading expertise, analytics-powered insights, and one of the largest clinical trial data sets in the industry. Discover more at www.medidata.com.

About the Team:

In the Medidata Data Experience , we focus on developing an integrated suite of product capabilities that accelerate and simplify clinical data and workflow orchestration. Our products serve as the critical connective tissue between Medidata and non-Medidata systems, ensuring that data flows seamlessly across the clinical trial lifecycle. Our mission is to provide a "Data Platform-as-a-Service" that balances the User Experience (UX) for business users, with the Developer Experience (DX) for system integrators and enterprise IT teams.

Who we’re looking for:
We’re looking for a Senior Director with 7+ years of experience successfully managing data-centric products or platforms. You are a leader who understands how to bridge the gap between complex clinical requirements and modern data infrastructure. You are particularly excited about the next frontier of AI—moving beyond simple automation to Agentic AI—and how to apply the right use cases at the right place in the clinical data flow.

Product Management Methods we embrace:

  • Hypothesis & Data-Driven Development: We believe in intuition, but we demand validation. We leverage usage data, patterns, and rigorous testing to prove or disprove our hypotheses before and after shipping.
  • Job To Be Done (JTBD): We uncover real demand and challenges over simply fulfilling feature requests.
  • Perspectives over Confusion: We share well-researched perspectives to inform design decisions.
  • Pattern Languages: We view solutions as a set of intentional tradeoffs between Form and Context.

Responsibilities:

STRATEGY & PLANNING

  • Drive the multi-year roadmap, identifying opportunities to enhance clinical data workflows and ecosystem connectivity.
  • Influence the broader Medidata data strategy, ensuring alignment with Sponsors, CROs, and Solution Integrators.
  • Execute a roadmap that integrates Agentic AI into the clinical data flow to streamline high-friction manual processes.
OPERATIONS & TECHNOLOGY
  • Lead product management and collaborate with engineering to define a modern AI-ready data stack—incorporating technologies like Apache Iceberg, Data Catalogs, Kafka, Data Streaming, Snowflake, and DuckDB.
  • Integrate capabilities around the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to ensure AI agents can effectively and safely interact with clinical data sources and tools.
  • Oversee the product lifecycle for data access mechanics, ensuring robust implementation of clinical-specific requirements such as blinding and unblinding at scale.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION & INFLUENCE

  • Lead through influence in a matrix organization, partnering closely with Engineering, Design, and Data Science to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Collaborate with CROs and Sponsors to understand their unique data orchestration needs and pain points.
  • Partner with Medidata Customer Service teams to drive platform adoption, troubleshoot complex implementations, and close the feedback loop between the field and the product.
  • Work with Enterprise IT and SIs to ensure the platform is accessible via robust API services and modern data-sharing mechanics.
TEAM & TALENT DEVELOPMENT
  • Lead and mentor a subteam of product managers  and engineers within the Data Experience organization, fostering a culture of extreme ownership and clinical domain excellence.
  • Direct cross-functional resources (Engineering, Product, Design) toward the most impactful outcomes.
  • Inspire stakeholders to leverage the platform's data orchestration and AI capabilities to solve unique client problems.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Product Management experience in a data-intensive domain, preferably with experience in a matrixed leadership role.
  • Hands-on Clinical Data Expertise: Practical knowledge of the clinical trial data lifecycle, including data review, cleaning, statistical programming, and analysis.
  • Modern Data Stack & AI: Demonstrated experience with modern data architectures (Iceberg, Kafka, DuckDB) and familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Agentic AI frameworks.
  • Clinical Governance: Practical experience implementing complex data access controls, specifically blinding and unblinding protocols at scale.
  • Analytical Rigor: A strong track record of using usage data and pattern analysis to validate product intuition and drive hypothesis-driven development.
  • Stakeholder Versatility: Proven ability to work with CROs, Sponsors, Enterprise IT, and internal Customer Service teams to drive adoption.
  • UX/DX Balance: Ability to design intuitive interfaces for clinical users while delivering high-quality API tools for technical stakeholders.
  • Ruthless Prioritization: The ability to say "No" to stay focused on the highest-impact strategic objectives.

As with all roles, Medidata sets ranges based on a number of factors including function, level, candidate expertise and experience, and geographic location. Pay ranges for candidates in locations other than New York City, may differ based on the local market data in that region.
