Skills and Competencies

  • Seasoned people leader and strategic thinker
  • Strong analytical skills and hands-on familiarity with modern data and analytics tools including Excel, Power BI, SQL, Gen AI tools (e.g., Copilot), and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

The Director – Data Specialist is responsible for defining and executing the regional data quality and coverage strategy for Moody’s Company Data. This role focuses on strategic direction, scalability, and long-term improvement of data quality, completeness, and consistency across regions and datasets. The Director will understand overall Moody’s Analytics priorities and push their organization to achieve those priorities as well as work with others to oversee day-to-day operations. The Director leads and develops the talent across multiple locations, ensuring that teams operate against a unified vision and common standards. 

  • Define and own the regional strategy for data quality, coverage, and enrichment, ensuring alignment with Moody’s broader Company Data and business objectives
  • Set clear priorities and success metrics that balance short-term operational needs with long-term scalability and automation
  • Act as a senior subject matter expert and escalation point for complex data, process, or stakeholder issues, including engaging with clients as needed
  • Champion a technology-enabled, data-driven culture, encouraging innovation while maintaining strong governance and controls
  •  Represent the function in senior leadership forums and contribute to enterprise-level data strategy discussions
  • Lead, coach, and develop managers and individual contributors across multiple geographies
  • Establish a strong leadership bench by identifying, developing, and retaining high-potential talent
  • Provide guidance, direction, and support to leaders responsible for day-to-day execution
  • Participate in senior-level hiring decisions and workforce planning for the region
  •  Advocate for and role-model Moody’s values, fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement
  •  Own end-to-end accountability for regional data quality and coverage outcomes, ensuring remediation and enrichment efforts meet defined standards
  • Ensure validated and enriched data adheres to governance, lineage, and audit requirements
  • Drive consistency in data standards, methodologies, and documentation across ways of working, datasets, and locations
  • Partner with Data Governance and Engineering teams to evolve validation rules and quality frameworks as data scales
  • Serve as a strategic partner to Sales, Product Strategy, Content, Engineering, and other key teams to understand customer use cases and business priorities
  • Translate business needs into scalable data initiatives and roadmap items
  •  Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes to senior stakeholders with clarity and confidence
  • Align regional priorities with global initiatives and collaborate with peers and leadership
  •  Provide senior oversight of multiple data remediation, enrichment, and transformation initiatives across the region
  • Ensure projects are aligned to strategic goals, adequately resourced, and delivering measurable impact
  • Proactively identify risks, dependencies, and capacity constraints, driving timely resolution
  • Prioritize organizational needs and actively ensure we have tradeoff discussions when needed
  • Support and sponsor large, cross-dataset or cross-functional initiatives as required
  • Monitor regional performance metrics related to data quality, coverage, efficiency, and throughput
  • Use insights to inform strategic decisions, prioritize investments, and adjust operating models
  • Partner with peers and teams to ensure reporting is consistent, meaningful, and actionable
  •  Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership audiences
  • Ensure robust quality control frameworks are in place and consistently applied
  • Sponsor periodic audits and reviews to validate adherence to data standards and governance requirements
  • Drive continuous refinement of quality benchmarks as products, datasets, and customer expectations evolve
  • Sponsor and approve technical proposals for process optimization, automation, and AI-enabled remediation
  • Leverage tools such as Databricks, Power BI, and Gen AI platforms to improve scalability, transparency, and efficiency
  • Promote best practices in data management and encourage knowledge sharing across teams and regions
  •  Coordinate peers and technical leaders on transformational initiatives and long-term capability building

The Data Estate division is the commercial data business of Moody’s Analytics, best known for Orbis—the world’s most comprehensive database of public and private companies. We provide mission-critical data to decision-makers globally, eliminating the hassle of sourcing and preparing data while adding value through insight and accessibility. This role partners closely with senior stakeholders across Sales, Product Strategy, Content, Engineering, and Data Governance to ensure data capabilities scale in line with business growth and customer needs
