Job Description

Purpose

The Director, Finance Transformation is a strategic leader who drives enterprise-wide finance transformation in partnership with executive leadership and AbbVie functional leaders across Commercial, Operations, Corporate, R&D, HR and other key functions. This role sets the vision and roadmap for long-term organizational change while leading the execution of complex, cross-functional transformation programs that deliver measurable business impact. As a key member of the Finance Transformation Team, the Director balances strategic vision-setting with hands-on program management, ensuring initiatives are aligned with AbbVie's enterprise objectives and produce sustainable results through best-in-class transformation practices, innovation, and organizational capability building.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and alignment of Finance Transformation strategies and execution plans that support AbbVie's enterprise-wide transformation objectives
  • Partner with executive leadership and the Transformation Steering Committee to set the vision and roadmap for long-term organizational change
  • Ensure Finance Transformation goals are strategically aligned with AbbVie's enterprise vision and deliver measurable ROI
  • Identify emerging trends, technologies, and methodologies (including AI-enabled planning, and advanced analytics) to drive continuous innovation in finance operations
  • Drive results within a heavily matrixed environment, leading cross-functional and global project teams supporting multiple complex initiatives simultaneously
  • Oversee major transformation programs with full accountability for scope, timeline, budget, and quality of deliverables
  • Design and implement key processes, frameworks, and metrics to oversee programs and track progress against strategic objectives
  • Track and report on key milestones, financial metrics, KPIs, and business case performance to the Transformation Steering Committee, Executive Leadership Team, and other management forums
  • Manage all transformation activities within allocated budgets and agreed-upon timelines, ensuring resource optimization and cost efficiency
  • Monitor performance of functional and, where required, local affiliate, area, and global teams to ensure consistent delivery standards
  • Lead comprehensive change management strategies to ensure stakeholder adoption, organizational readiness, and sustainable transformation outcomes
  • Build high-trust relationships with business partners across functions and geographies, serving as a strategic advisor and trusted partner
  • Manage resistance and navigate organizational dynamics to drive alignment and commitment across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Roll out and train functional, cross-functional, and global teams on transformation processes, frameworks, and tools to build organizational capability
  • Develop communication strategies and materials to effectively convey complex transformation concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Manage external vendors and consulting firms to ensure successful implementation and integration of financial systems (ERP/SAP, planning tools, data visualization platforms) within the existing technology environment
  • Drive the adoption of automation and advanced analytics tools to enhance financial planning, reporting, and decision-making capabilities
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate transformation risks, developing contingency plans to ensure program resilience and continuity
  • Proactively escalate issues and provide recommendations to executive leadership on strategic, tactical, and confidential matters with immediate and long-term business impacts
  • Monitor external market trends and regulatory changes that may impact finance transformation strategies.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or a related field
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive leadership experience in finance transformation, consulting, or a similar business environment
  • Significant experience leading large-scale, complex transformational programs with demonstrated business impact
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional and global project teams in a matrixed organization
  • Strong financial acumen with deep familiarity with financial systems, processes, and ERP platforms (SAP experience highly valued)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and project management tools (Smartsheet, or similar)
  • Exceptional project management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives with competing priorities
  • Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage ambiguity in fast-paced environments
  • Executive-ready communication skills with the ability to simplify and convey complex technical and business concepts to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and operate independently with minimal supervision
  • Global mindset with experience working across geographies, cultures, and time zones
  • Proven change management expertise, including stakeholder adoption strategies and resistance management
  • Strong business judgment with the ability to drive diverse organizations to achieve results through a focused, pragmatic approach.
